Inventing with Makey Makey | Tue., Mar 12 @ 3:45 pm Grade 5 & up. Turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. We provide Makey Makeys, some fruit and candy; you bring your ideas!

Science Explorers: Catapults | Tue., Mar 26 @ 3 pm Make mini launchers out of common household materials, and test your creations in an epic mini-battle!

Public Forum | Thur., Mar 7 @ 6 pm An informational presentation concerning the April 2 referendum question of whether the City of Chillicothe should join the surrounding Chillicothe Community Fire Protection District.

Launching the CubeSail Satellite | Mon., Mar 11 @ 6 pm Dr. Michael F. Lembeck from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign discusses a recent project by U of I students to design and launch a small satellite that maneuvers by solar sail. The satellite launched in December after more than a decade in development, as part of NASA’s Educational Launch of Nanosatellites mission. Dr. Lembeck will talk about the development process, project goals, and results gathered so far.

Retirement Income | Tue., Mar 12 @ 6 pm Certified financial planner Fran McKay presents how to plan for income in retirement. She starts by looking back at typical retirement income sources in recent history and what may be expected over the next 20 to 30 years. Topics include social security, pensions, employer sponsored retirement plans, individual retirement accounts, personal savings, and earned income in retirement.

Zumba! | Wed., Mar 13 & 27 @ 10 am Zumba combines Latin and international music with dance moves and incorporates interval training to provide a fun full-body workout. This class is for all levels, taught by certified Zumba instructor Dany Bruère. Wear comfortable workout clothes and gym shoes or sneakers, and bring a reusable water bottle! Free; donations appreciated.

AARP Free Tax Preparation February 2 - April 13 Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm Saturdays @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm Chillicothe Public Library is pleased to partner with AARP again in offering free in-person tax prep service. The service is open to all, but designed to assist low and moderate income taxpayers. Service is provided on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis. No appointments will be scheduled. The seminar will cover important information to help you manage your estate during your lifetime and in your estate plan.

What You Plant Matters: The Collective Impact of Urban Habitat on People & Nature Thur., Mar 21 @ 6 pm Dr. Abigail Derby Lewis will discuss the Field Museum’s Urban Monarch Conservation program and their efforts to understand the role and opportunities small and mid-sized cities have in supporting monarchs and other pollinators.

Women of WWII: On the Front Lines & the Home Front Sat., Mar 23 @ 1 pm During World War II, American women took on many new roles, both in the military and as civilians. Beyond Rosie the Riveter and the Atomic Girls, women made incredible contributions to the war effort. One of the civilian avenues was through the American Red Cross Clubmobile program, which was essentially a mobile club, featuring doughnuts, coffee, and good old American girl-next-door friendliness, all served up at the front lines in Europe, Southeast Asia, India, and Australia - wherever the troops were to be found. Learn more about the Clubmobile program and all the ways in which American women helped win the war, with Barb Warner Deane, author of On the Homefront.

Brain Health with AARP IL | Tue., Mar 26 @ 6 pm It’s never too late to take charge of your brain health! In this hour-long interactive session you will learn about the five pillars of a brain-healthy lifestyle, share your brain-boosting activities, and be inspired by others. This session is a good overview for anyone interested in improving their brain health and will provide you with actionable steps you can take along with resources to learn more. Chilli Bear’s Corner Thanks for bearing with us as we reorganize the picture books. I just talked with the librarians, and they said we’re really close to unveiling a great new set-up! By March 8, you will be able to browse the picture books by subject—not to mention check them out again! We know you’ve missed them; they’ve missed you too.

Do you have colorful old greeting cards that you'd like to see go for a good use? The Youth Department is looking for cards (and other colorful pictures on heavy stock) to use for our craft workshops. Donate your cards to the library, and they will be turned into fun decorations!
