A BOMB which partiallyexploded under a car in eastBelast yesterday aternoon  was paramilitary, accordingto the chairman o BelastDistrict Policing Partnership.

The PSNI said last nightthat a suspicious object inthe Flora Street area turnedout to be a viable device, aterexamination by Army bombexperts.

Blaming paramilitaries,DPP chairman Jim Rodgerssaid that “a device partiallyexploded under a vehicle”and some 120 homes had tobe evacuated.

“I have taken out nominationpapers or the position o leadero the Ulster Unionist Party,”Mr Kennedy told the Press  Association. “And I intend tosubmit those papers.”

The UUP veteran said he  would elaborate on his reasonsor seeking the party’s top job inthe coming days.
