Reactions 1041 - 5 Mar 2005 NZ’s Medsafe recalls adulterated herbal medicines New Zealand’s Medsafe is recalling three Herbs Health herbal medicines that have been found to contain undeclared furosemide 4 mg/capsule and piroxicam 11 mg/capsule [Joint Plus capsules, S.E.N Plus capsules] or betamethasone 1.6 mg/capsule [Multistress capsules]. Consumers have been advised to immediately discontinue use of Joint Plus and S.E.N Plus. However, Dr Karen Poutasi, the New Zealand (NZ) Director-General of Health, warns Multistress users not to suddenly stop using the product, and to consult a doctor. Dr Poutasi also advises Multistress users to inform their surgeon and anaesthetist if they are about to undergo surgery. The NZ Ministry of Health has advised doctors about how to wean their patients off Multistress, as there are risks associated with sudden cessation of prolonged corticosteroid use in some patients.
