The purpose of this portfolio is to present you with a custom designed set of business and marketing collateral that will be beneficial to your business. Please take the time to look through the designs I have created and I promise you won’t regret it.

I chose you as a client because I am super passionate about watching and following basketball. I believe that the NY Knicks are a great organization, but its image is struggling during these rough times of low-caliber play. I would love to join your marketing team as I believe that I will be an asset and my designs will help to propel your organization out of this downturn.

Due to your location in the sports mecca of the world, there is intense competition within your industry. Your main competitors within the sports and entertainment segment are the:

• Brooklyn Nets• NY Yankees • NY Rangers• NY Mets• NCAA March Madness

Because of this intense competition, it is essential for your organization to distinguish itself from its competitors. It is more important than ever, with the Knicks’ demoralizing record, to grow the brand through a well-thought out marketing and advertising campaign.

The iconic bright orange and blue colors are emphasized throughout this book using contrast to portray pride in the organization. The tagline, “Once a Knick, Always a Knick” reinforces this concept of pride even more. The logo is a simple, but accurate representation of the team that works well in all sizes, color scales and countries. It is easy to create, cheap to print, visually pleasing and applicable to a global standardized marketing strategy since the NY Knicks travel and broadcast nationally and internationally for games.

A web page design is also included that I believe can help the NY Knicks increase its presence in the ecommerce segment. It is easier to navigate than your current site and is extremely informative. You already have a strong presence on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more, so this redesigned website layout will complement those and strengthen your internet presence.

I have also enclosed a sample monthly newsletter. This will be a wonderful and profitable addition to your organization’s marketing efforts. This newsletter will keep current fans up to date with news stories, game results, player actions, upcoming events, etc. This will help to build a loyal fan base that will stick around even during slump seasons like this most recent one.

Your target market is primarily males, but also includes some females ages 10-60 who are interested in sports, are basketball enthusiasts and athletes. They come from all different economic backgrounds, but all value the pride of New Yorkers and have a competitive spirit. The way we are going to reach out to this target market is with aggressive marketing consisting of live action plays and shots. These customers want to come out to games at Madison Square Garden and support the team, meet the players, buy the gear and engage on social media. And when they can’t make it to games, these fans want to be kept involved and informed.

With this portfolio, I am trying to convey the image that the NY Knicks are a successful, hard-working, smart organization that is consistent in everything it does including playing basketball. This organization has a lot of pride in its hometown New York City and it cares about its fans and the local community; fans who have grown up watching these players succeed and fail on and off the court.

Top Draft ProspectsJahlil OkaforThe Duke freshman is clearly the top prize in the draft. He was the No.1 prospect before the season started, and has more than lived up to expectations, averaging 18.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He isn’t a freak athlete, but he looks ready to have an immediate impact as an offensive player in the NBA.

Emmanuel Mudiay He might be the best prospect available, other than Okafor. There isn’t as much known about him as other potential draftees, since he decided to sign a $1.2 million contract to play in China, but he’s thrived overseas. NBA executives have told Yahoo Sports that the point guard has increased his draft stock, averaging 17.7 points, six rebounds and six assists per game.

D’Angelo Russell The freshman has been extremely impressive in his first season with Ohio State, averaging 19.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. He exhibits an elite shooting ability, making 44.6 percent of the 6.4 three-pointers he attempts each game, and his skills as a passer should translate nicely at the next level.

Looking Towards the Future

Injury Update

Former New York Knick Anthony Mason has passed away at the age of 48. After suffering congestive heart failure, Mason was thought to be improving after undergoing four surgeries.

He played for the New York Knicks for five seasons, while also playing for the Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets and Den-ver Nuggets. Mason is survived by two sons, Mason Jr. and Antoine Mason, who currently plays for Auburn.

Saying Goodbye

Carmelo Anthony had a successful left knee patella tendon debridement and repair surgery on Thursday. His season is officially over and he’ll be re-evaluated in eight weeks. Anthony is expected to need 4-6 months to recover and he should be ready to go next season.

However, his durability isn’t quite as reliable these days. With Melo out, the Knicks are going to have a tough time finding some scoring on the wing. Most owners can just see how it plays out with the exception of adding Jason Smith.

The Knicks are doing their best to keep their heads above water after Carmelo Anthony was ruled out for the remainder of the season. The team are winners of two straight games after defeating the Toronto Raptors, but the playoffs are no longer in the picture and team president Phil Jackson is more concerned with future roster moves instead. Outside of Anthony, Tim Hardaway Jr might be safe along with Langston Galloway and Lou Amundson. Outside of them, anyone is up for grabs including Jose Calderon as the team favors Rajon Rondo in free agency.

Rondo would be a solid building piece for the Knicks. Calderon has never been viewed as a future player for the team. Jackson was disappointed he could not trade the point guard before the deadline, but is hoping to have better luck in the offseason. With Calderon headed out, the door is open for Rondo.

Langston Galloway’s clutch shooting has secured one third of the Knicks’ wins this year. I’m here to talk to you about numbers and facts. Let’s talk about number facts. Fact: The Knicks have won 12 games this long,

forsaken season. They’ve played 58 in total. Fact: Langston Galloway has played 21 games with

the Knicks. Fact: Langston Galloway has buried four clutch-ass

threes this season. I’m not worried about a rigorous definition of “clutch” here (though you’ll find Lang

on that leader board). These four three-pointers either secured wins or prevented a loss in the final

minute of close games.

This is a guy who joined the team in January and has participated in just 21 games. Nearly one fifth of Galloway’s career games have included clutch-ass threes. He’s an anti-tank weapon, firing a couple rounds at a time. Well done, Langston Galloway.

It’s no secret that Spike Lee is a die-hard Knicks fan. He bleeds blue and orange, through and through. Don’t let him catch you wearing other colors, especially if you play ball for the New York Knicks.

Question: Give us your all-time first five starting hoop squad for one game, for all the marbles, against anybody, anytime?

Answer: Bill Russell at center. I know, Kareem, Wilt, now Shaq. Whatever. Like I said, Bill Russell at center. Magic Johnson at point guard. Michael Jordan at two guard. Then give me Larry Bird at small forward. In “She’s Gotta Have It” when Jaime said, “Say what you want, the white boy is the best player in the NBA,” I know that Mars says, “The best? The best? He’s the ugliest m’f’er in the NBA!” But even Mars knew Bird was the Truth. He was just defending the rep of the brothers. Politically, it’s just hard to consider Karl Malone for my five. He’s been a great player for a long time, but some of that stuff Karl has done bothers me too much to put him on my team. OK, put Doc, Julius Erving, at three, move Bird to strong forward. I never saw Oscar Robertson play with the Royals, but people who played with him, they say the Big O was better than anybody; they even pick him over Michael Jordan. Wish I’d seen him.

Question: Deep down, way deep, have you ever thought about why you love sports so much?

Answer: The reason I love sports so much is because I was introduced to them at an early age by my father, at old Madison Square Garden, going to hoop triple-headers, in the daytime, and night. Going to Yankee Stadium as a boy with my father, going to Shea. Now my own son, Jackson, is 4 years old. The past two weekends, we’ve been to Giants games, Jets game. We go to Knick games. If we’re lucky, we’ll catch Game 4 or Game 5 of the Series at Yankee Stadium. The love is, in a way, genetic; it gets passed down, handed down, generation to generation. As Americans, we’re the greatest sports fans, even greater than the ancients Romans, or the Mayans. Someday, my son will inherit my courtside seats at the Knicks, but he’d better be making some money. Them seats cost!

Q&A With Knicks Fan of the Month: Spike Lee

Featured Player Quote

“It feels great. It’s a wonderful opportunity. You got to enjoy the moment, embrace it, and just go out there and have fun. That’s what I was just trying to do, just go out there and have fun and just soak up all the energy that the fans were giving us.”
