The Machinery was in immaculate condition and attracted buyers from throughout the UK and Ireland, over 400 buyers registered on the morning of the sale, auctioneer Matthew Probert was greeted by a sale ring packed to capacity of eager bidders. The sale commenced with 100 lots of workshop tools and equipment, all in a very clean and in original boxed condition. All items sold to an exceptional trade topping at £460 for a blue point socket set, £320 Mini Arc Welder, £320 Minibolt Moisture meter, £260 Heiniger cordless clippers, curved spanners £60 and a Sthil M5440 Chainsaw £400. CLAAS 960 FORAGER SELLS FOR £94,000 AT DISPERSAL SALE OF MODERN CLAAS MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT WHICH

ATTRACTED BUYERS FROM THROUGHOUT THE UK AND IRELAND

On Saturday 6th February 2016 North West Auctions held the

dispersal sale of modern farm machinery and contracting equipment on behalf of the late S Wilson, Preston. The Machinery was in immaculate condition and attracted buyers from throughout the UK and Ireland, over 400 buyers registered on the morning of the sale, auctioneer Matthew Probert was greeted by a sale ring packed to capacity of eager bidders.

The sale commenced with 100 lots of workshop tools and equipment, all in a very clean and in original boxed condition. All items sold to an exceptional trade topping at £460 for a blue point socket set, £320 Mini Arc Welder, £320 Minibolt Moisture meter, £260 Heiniger cordless clippers, curved spanners £60 and a Sthil M5440 Chainsaw £400.

The machinery and contracting equipment was presented in imaculate condition and offered buyers the opportunity to purchase a wide selection of Claas machinery with low hours, a sale of this type is rarely seen at an auction anywhere in the United Kingdom.

Grassland machinery saw a set of Claas 3100C and 3100FC sell for a combined price of £16,050, Volto 1050 tedder £12,000 and 2800 rake £10,700. Trailers sold to £7,600 for a chieftain dump trailer, £6,100 and £5,800 for 30ft fraser flat bale trailers with a silage trailer selling for £3,600. The Claas Rollant 455 Uniwrap with only 1185 bales on the counter sold for £27,500 to an Irish telephone bidder.

A Busy Day at NWA Lancaster as 590 head from 126 different vendors pass through three rings.

Lancaster continues to draw big entries of Store Cattle, with 368 going under the hammer. A ringside of buyers, comprising of regular and new faces ensured all classes met a strong trade. The few cattle forward which were not in spec were a fraction less than previously seen. A pen of 4 smart Charolais bullocks from H Chapman and Son, Middleton sold to £1350, along with an Angus Bullock from R Escolme, Bay Horse. Heifers sold to a top of £1280 for a 22month British Blue from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton. A dozen cattle sold in excess of £1300. A run of nice Limousin bullocks from TR Prickett, Farleton sold to a top of £1280. Friesian bullocks sold to £1000 from EE Thornton & Sons, Downlands.

A large show of 152 Cast Cows and OTM Cattle forward this morning at Lancaster. Trade topped at 177.5ppk for a 35month Angus Bullock from O Butler, Esprick, which also took the top gross price of £1262. Friesian cows sold to 154.5ppk from A & MI Robinson, Penrith. Friesian heifers sold to 149.5ppk from EW & RM Towers, Hornby. Black and White cows averaged 96.18ppk whilst heifers averaged 128.5ppk. Beef cows sold to 137.5ppk for a Blonde from Matthew Hill, Slyne. All classes met an exceptional trade in comparison to other local centres this week. A very respectable average of 102ppk considering the sale was made up of 87% dairy breeds.

Best calves £70-£95, nice younger rearers around the £50 mark. Another big entry of 45 stirks following on from last week’s successful stirk sale, saw Limousin and Simmental heifers 6-8months sell to £500

& £505. A Hereford Bull from S Moore and a Limousin Bull from I Atkinson & Son sold to £480. British Blue bullocks realised £500.

Monday 8th February The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs had a reduced entry of just over 500 forward. A strong trade throughout the sale with a market average of 186ppk and a SQQ average of 189ppk. Pens of good quality well finished hoggs regularly selling around the 200ppk mark. A good quality consignment of Charollais and Texel hoggs from P Lawrenson of Brindle topped the market selling to £97.50. Horned hoggs topped at £87.50 or 205ppk from WM Pye of Tarnwater. A larger proportion of Lightweight Hoggs in the market saw continental hoggs regularly be-tween 175ppk and 190ppk depending on the quality and condition.

Certainly more interest around the ring today with fresh and returning buy-ers looking for all types of calves. Well-grown beef calves at just shy of two months old, sold to £370 twice from RW Nicholson of Lupton, with British Blue and Limousin bull calves. A lot of young beef calves saw nice types selling between £220 and £260. Black and Whites a sharper trade with a lot of young calves forward, with fleshed calves definitely selling to a premium today and vendors were very pleased with their black and white trade. Black and whites topped at £125 from Messrs Sowerby of Appleby. A small selection of stirks forward today saw 8 month old Black and whites sell to £455 from RH & RA Fawcett of Burton.

There was a show of 27 Cast Cows & Bulls forward for todays sale, with an increased ringside of buyers ensuring a satisfactory overall aver-age of 103.5p/kg. A reduced entry of cattle forward due to major accident on the A590 and with some farmers facing movement restrictions because of on going TB issues, any customers now facing pre-movement testing please do not hesitate to get in touch with ourselves if you have any queries for options of marketing your cattle.

The top price was 183.5p for a Limousin heifer from A Dixon & Son, Kit Crag which was sold to Plumgarths Farm Shop. There was 52 Store Cattle at the fortnightly sale. Store Cattle easily sold, and more could have been sold, to a good ringside of buyers. The top price was £900 for a 10 month old Charolais bullock from A W Irvine, High Wray Farm.

The monthly sale of pigs saw an entry of 90 forward for the sale, which included the Anniversary Show for Prime Pigs. The prize-winning pigs were a pair of Pietrain x gilts from John Stott, Kendal. These later sold for a market-topping price of £124. Other well-finished prime pigs generally £72 - £85 (65p/kg – 85p/kg). Best white store pigs sold to £72, with lesser sorts £32 - £45. Weaners experienced the least interest for a while, with buyers very selective. Best white weaners sold to £27 for gilts with others £8 -£15.

The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs saw a rise in trade, producing a market average of 188p/kg, topping at 220p/kg for best hoggs from KJ Knight. Other pens of well-finished hoggs 195p/kg – 210p/kg. A top price of £100 was paid for Texels from TS & SM Park, with others regularly selling in excess of £90. Hill lambs sold to £76.50 for Swaledales, with well-finished hoggs 42kg upwards easiest sold. Light-weight hoggs were less in number today, with buyers keen for all types generally achieving 155p/kg – 175p/kg.

Sale next week to include anniversary show and sale for prime hoggs in pairs.

The strongest trade that has been for some time for Cast Ewes with a busy ring of buyers, all very keen to buy ewes. A bigger entry than over the previous weeks, with just shy of 450 going through the ring. Continental ewes easily over £100, topping at £125 from S Mawson & Son of Moor House. Charollais’ sold to £118 and Llyens selling to £108 from J A & R Geldard of Low Foulshaw. Continental Suffolks and Cheviot ewes regularly sold in the eighties and towards ninety pounds. Mule ewes sold to £82 for a pen from EJ Hodgson & Son of Lambrigg Head, with good mule ewes regularly selling in the seventies. Over-fat Mule ewes strongly punished with buyers not wanting to buy over-fat ewes. A good entry of horned ewes in terms of number and quality. Rough Fell ewes topped at £73 from S Mawson & Son of Moor House, with big ewes selling in the sixties and smaller types in the fifties. Swaledale ewes topped at £67 from Drinkall Bros of Catshaw, with fit Swale ewes in the early fifties. Lean ewes of all breeds a very strong trade, especially for white faced lean ewes buyers extremely keen to purchase them.
