This traditional rhyming tale takes children on a counting journey.
Sing and count along as you go on a journey across the meadow and meet the busy animal families.
From a bumpy mother toad and her baby basking in the sun to a hairy mother spider and her ten children spinning webs in a den
Listening and Talk Time
Down on the farm
Listen to this CBeebies radio podcast and join JB and Storm down on the farm to find out what's happening in springtime.

Talk about… springtime animals!
Which sounds of spring could you hear?
What did you learn about springtime at the farm?
What did Farmer Alan tell you about vegetables?
What machine does Farmer Alan use? Why?
Can you describe springtime weather?
Which animals did you learn about?
What happens to them in springtime?

Name writing with nature
If you are able to go on a safe walk outside, can you spot any signs of spring and collect some natural materials to use at home to write your name.
Can you write your name using natural items you can collect?
(remember to use lowercase letters apart from the first letter of your name)
Springtime Arts and Crafts
There are lots and lots of springtime arts and crafts ideas online.
Using materials and resources you have at home what can you make?

STEM - explore and investigate
Spring sunshine and shadows
We have been fascinated by the way the light moves around our home in the day and the different shadows it casts. My favourite is the shadow of a vase of flowers and the spring raindrops.
Can you explore the light and shadows in your home?
How do the light and shadows change during the day?
Can you capture shadows by drawing or taking photos?
Music and Movement
Do the mash potato, not the couch potato:

Singing and counting:
Days of Spring
Watch this video and sing along with the Numberblocks to celebrate spring with this number song.
Can you count the signs of spring?

Counting groups of baby animals
Listen carefully and count the baby animals (not the mothers) in the song.
Now, record how many of each group of baby animals there were.
Can you draw each group of animals from 1 little toadie to 10 little spiders?

Exercise
Normally it is recommended that nursery aged children should spend at least 180 minutes (3 hours) a day doing a variety of physical activities spread throughout the day.
This is very hard to do in lockdown, especially if you don't have a garden, so you'll need to be thinking of new indoor ideas to burn energy and keep fit.
Cosmic Kids Yoga - On the Farm
A kids yoga adventure on Old MacDonald's Farm - pose like a horse, cow and chick.
