Electrical Supervision18.1.2 - A trouble signal shall be distinguishable from all nurse call signals and shall be indicated by operation of a sounding appliance. If the audible signal is silenced there must be a visual indicator.18.1.4 - The fuses in a code call circuit and a centralized system control unit shall be electrically supervised to indicate rupture of a fuse. If the rupture prevents intended operation of the unit an audible trouble signal must sound.49.1 - The maximum time from the occurrence of a fault or adverse condition in any communication path or equivalent during annunciation or idle time, or the restoration of the fault, or adverse condition to normal shall be 90 seconds.

SYSTEM CONTROLLERS:The “brains” of the SmartCare System are located in the Host Controller. Every system requires a programmed Host Controller. Programming is done through an Ethernet port and saved on a removable USB flash drive for programming backup. Systems that exceed the device maximum and/or distances require an Expansion Board. Both the Host Controller and Expansion Board should be on a UPS for surge protection and battery backup.

The SmartCare System is capable of integrating with our Pocket Paging System. The connection for paging is done through an RS232 port on the Host Controller. The 5 watt Paging Transmitter is designed to cover even the largest facilities. When a high priority level call is placed and/or cancelled, a page will go out to every Pocket Pager on the system. This feature allows for staff to be mobile while still receiving notifications. A reminder feature sends a page when a call has gone over 5 minutes in duration. A page is also sent when a call is cancelled.

CHECK-IN FEATURE:The RATH® Check-In Feature is great for any long-term care facility. This solution uses software to monitor residents’ cognitive ability and health. When the system is installed there is a ‘check-in window’ programmed into the software. Each active Check-In Device is recognized on the system and must check-in within that window or an alert will be sent to the staff.

DATA LOGGING FEATURE:All calls that come into the system are logged in the software and saved including the call, call cancellation, date, and time. This data is important for managing staff and residents. The data can be exported for easy evaluation.

10.6.9.1.1- Failure of either the primary or secondary power supply shall result in a trouble signal in accordance with section 10.14.10.6.7.2.1- The secondary power supply (battery backup) shall have sufficient capacity to operate the system under quiescent load (system operating in a non-alarm condition) for a minimum of 24 hours and, at the end of that period, shall be capable of operating all alarm notification appliances used for evacuation or to direct aid to the location of an emergency for 5 minutes.10.6.7.2.1.1: Battery calculations shall include a minimum 20 percent safety margin above the calculated amp-hour capacity required.

IBC 2009 & 20121009.8 Two-Way Communication. A two-way communication system complying with Sections 1009.8.1 and 1009.8.2 shall be provided at the landing serving each elevator or bank of elevators on each accessible floor that is one or more stories above or below the level of exit discharge.Exceptions: 1. Two-way communication systems are not required at the landing serving each elevator or bank of elevators where the two-way communication system is provided within Areas of Refuge in accordance with Section 1009.6.5.

1009.8.2 Directions. Directions for the use of the two-way communication system, instructions for summoning assistance via the two-way communication system and written identification of the location shall be posted adjacent to the two-way communication system. Signage shall comply with the ICC A 117.1 requirements for visual characters.

1009.9 Signage. Signage indicating special accessibility provisions shall be provided as shown: • Each door providing access to an Area of Refuge an adjacent floor area shall be identified by a sign stating: AREA OF REFUGE. • Each door providing access to an exterior area for assisted rescue shall be identified by a sign stating: EXTERIOR AREA FOR ASSISTED RESCUE. • Where exit sign illumination is required by Section 1013.3, the signs shall be illuminated. • Additionally, visual characters, raised character, and braille signage complying with ICC A 117.1 shall be located at each door to an Area of Refuge and exterior Area for Assisted Rescue in accordance with Section 1013.4. • Signage shall comply with the ICC A 117.1 requirements for visual characters and include the International Symbol of Accessibility.
