Dear Parents and Carers This is the final newsletter of the year. It was wonderful to see so many of you at Presentation Day on Monday. It was a wonderful morning although some what hot in the hall. As I said in my speech 2016 has been full of highlights in every area. Our students continue to amaze and inspire me with their focus and dedication. I am lucky to have such a committed staff, all of whom have the same goal of making sure every student receives the best education possible. This will allow them to become successful, caring citizens when they finish their schooling. We seem to be nearly outgrowing Mt View High School's hall but I don't know of any other venues that would hold more. Year 6 Farewell What a lovely night this was. The students looked fantastic and we had a variety of modes of transport used, from a horse to a motorbike and everything in between. The food was amazing as always and the cupcakes delicious. Our new captains ran the night and did a remarkable job. The formal part of the night produced some lovely memories including school photos, both beginning and final, and the year in review in images. Making their final speeches in front of their teachers, parents and friends always proves challenging but both Harriett and Zac rose to the challenge. The final dance by Year 5 and Year 6 was also a highlight. The images and dance will be repeated for the whole school on Friday, followed by our goodbye messages and the Year 6 clap out. I'm sure there will be tears. They have been a wonderful group of students who have excelled both academically and in the sporting arena. My leadership team have been awesome as well. I wish them all the best next year and beyond and I hope they keep in touch. Recognition Assembly and Thank You Morning Tea It was wonderful to see so many parents at the Assembly even in the extreme heat. So many children to recognise who have achieved so many wonderful things in 2016. The children's items were, as usual, the highlight of the morning, especially the ES1 item. While I had to rush away to another function our annual Thank You morning tea, which is provided by the staff, to thank all the parents and friends who volunteer at our school in any way was much appreciated. It was a shame more parents did not stay. P&C Final Meeting and Christmas Dinner Although our numbers were a bit down on last year, my executive staff and I had a lovely Christmas dinner with the members of the P&C. It was a great way to relax and unwind after another very productive and successful year. We said farewell to Rachel Murray as her last child will complete year 6 in 2016. Thanks Rachel for all the hard work you and Tim have put into helping Nulkaba be the best school it can be. Stop Work Meeting I would just like to clarify a couple of points in regard to the Stop Work meeting last week. This meeting was called by the Union and as such attendance at that meeting is an individual choice by each class teacher. We let you know as soon as we knew and communicated the information through four channels, newsletter, note, Facebook and then email on the night before as a reminder. We understood that it was short notice and at a difficult time with all the other events on so the school was open with supervision provided until all staff were back at school. We had nearly one hundred students here when the day began. Dear Parents and Carers

This is the final newsletter of the year. It was wonderful to see so many of you at Presentation Day on Monday. It was a

wonderful morning although some what hot in the hall. As I said in my speech 2016 has been full of highlights in every

area. Our students continue to amaze and inspire me with their focus and dedication. I am lucky to have such a

committed staff, all of whom have the same goal of making sure every student receives the best education possible.

This will allow them to become successful, caring citizens when they finish their schooling. We seem to be nearly

outgrowing Mt View High School's hall but I don't know of any other venues that would hold more.

Year 6 Farewell

What a lovely night this was. The students looked fantastic and we had a variety of modes of transport used, from a

horse to a motorbike and everything in between. The food was amazing as always and the cupcakes delicious.

Our new captains ran the night and did a remarkable job. The formal part of the night produced some lovely memories

including school photos, both beginning and final, and the year in review in images. Making their final speeches in front

of their teachers, parents and friends always proves challenging but both Harriett and Zac rose to the challenge. The

final dance by Year 5 and Year 6 was also a highlight. The images and dance will be repeated for the whole school on

Friday, followed by our goodbye messages and the Year 6 clap out. I'm sure there will be tears. They have been a

wonderful group of students who have excelled both academically and in the sporting arena. My leadership team have

been awesome as well. I wish them all the best next year and beyond and I hope they keep in touch.

Recognition Assembly and Thank You Morning Tea

It was wonderful to see so many parents at the Assembly even in the extreme heat. So many children to recognise who

have achieved so many wonderful things in 2016. The children's items were, as usual, the highlight of the morning,

especially the ES1 item. While I had to rush away to another function our annual Thank You morning tea, which is

provided by the staff, to thank all the parents and friends who volunteer at our school in any way was much

appreciated. It was a shame more parents did not stay.

P&C Final Meeting and Christmas Dinner

Although our numbers were a bit down on last year, my executive staff and I had a lovely Christmas dinner with the

members of the P&C. It was a great way to relax and unwind after another very productive and successful year. We said

farewell to Rachel Murray as her last child will complete year 6 in 2016. Thanks Rachel for all the hard work you and Tim

have put into helping Nulkaba be the best school it can be.

Stop Work Meeting

I would just like to clarify a couple of points in regard to the Stop Work meeting last week. This meeting was called by

the Union and as such attendance at that meeting is an individual choice by each class teacher. We let you know as soon

as we knew and communicated the information through four channels, newsletter, note, Facebook and then email on

the night before as a reminder. We understood that it was short notice and at a difficult time with all the other events

on so the school was open with supervision provided until all staff were back at school. We had nearly one hundred

students here when the day began.

Hunter Sports Awards

This year two of our students were recognised for their sporting achievements with a Sporting award from the Hunter PSSA. Mrs Zoneff and I had the pleasure to attend this award ceremony. Not only have Henry and Mercydes excelled this year in their chosen sports, but they have displayed excellent sportsmanship in representing themselves, Nulkaba Public School and their PSSA teams. Mr Peter Moore has been the Sports Co-Ordinator for 26 years and has done an amazing job. In honour of his dedication (and now that he has retired) a new award has been created. The inaugural Sportswoman and Sportsman of the year awards were presented. This included a perpetual trophy and a beautiful blue glass plaque. Mercydes was awarded Sportswoman of the Year, a wonderful achievement.

2017

As I also mentioned in my speech we are very excited with the changes we are making to our timetable to ensure we best support all the students at our school. We welcome a new Assistant Principal in 2016 Mrs Kadi Carr who will be the Assistant Principal for ES1 along with Mrs Parker and Mrs Swanborough. Mrs Burley will be looking after Stage 1 and will be our Learning and Support teacher. Mrs Cousins, Miss McCallum, Mrs French, Mrs Craft and Mrs Hill will take Stage 1. Mrs Zoneff will be the Stage 2 AP and will be taking the enrichment class. Also on Stage 2 will be Miss Brockwell, Mrs Challen, Miss Johns and Mrs Schilder. Mrs Petrysen will continue as Stage 3 AP and also continue with the enrichment class. Mrs Walker, Miss Gray and Miss Woodbury will join her on Stage 3. Next year school will resume on Monday 30th January. Stage 1 will meet on the netball court in front of the library, Stage 2 under the COLA and Stage 3 in the Hall, they will then find out their classes and teachers and move to their new rooms. Students are to take their bags to the COLA until the 9.10 bell rings and then take them to their designated area. All new ES1 students will have received their Best Start times for the 30th and 31st January. They will begin their classes on Wednesday 1st February.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a safe and happy holiday break. It has, once again, been a pleasure to work along side of you to provide the best education we can for your children. Thank you to all who have supported Nulkaba in any way this year. I look forward to us all working together again in 2017.

News from the Classroom

Class 3-4W

It has been an absolute delight to have taught 3/4W this year. We both agree that the students have made significant

growth since day one, both academically and personally. We have seen our students grow to become respectable,

reliable members of Nulkaba Public School and we are very proud of them and what they have achieved.

As the term has wound down, the students have been busy practising for the Recognition assembly, exploring possible

career choices at our Careers Day, working on their bridge projects and of course delving into Christmas activities.

Many of the students have achieved excellent results in their times table challenges as they have worked extremely

hard to become competent with their mental strategies. They’ve worked tirelessly in reading and writing, working

collaboratively to produce high quality work.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of our beautiful students for a fantastic year that we

are sure to remember! We wish them all the very best for 2017!

Mrs Melissa Waldron-Lamotte and Mrs Gemma Walker

News from the Classroom (continued)

Class 5/6W Wow! What a year it has been in 5/6W. It’s hard to believe that the year has come to an end. We have had an absolute

blast this year, making many wonderful memories. Our favourite highlights include our Sydney camp, surf day, discos,

Year 6 farewell, book week parade and so much more inside the classroom. We look forward to a wonderful 2017,

where we will take on Year 6 and 7. Best wishes to our 8-amazing Year 6 students that are heading to high school.

Miss Woodbury and Class 5/6W.

School Library News

Library Thanks!

Thank you to the families and students who have made sure that all library books have been returned or have been

accounted for via the overdue notices that were distributed last week. It is very important to have all items accounted

for – especially at the end of the year when we have our Year 6 students moving onto high school and some families

move to other areas – so that we do not lose our valuable resources. Of course, there are still some outstanding loans –

the return of any library item found over the holidays early in the new school year will be greatly appreciated. Happy

reading for the holidays!
