"A stone’s throw away...""A stone’s throw away..."Stone’s Self Catering Cottages in Kayser’s Beach is situated 45km south west of East London. Follow the R72 towards Port Alfred passing Kidd’s Beach intersection until the Kayser’s Beach turnoff from the R72. The remains of the wreck of the Cape St Francis, a fishing trawler, are to be seen at the “Bay”. This ship ran aground in November 1963, in the dark of the night with a high sea running, fortunately no lives were lost in the mishap.

Could you do with a relaxing break in a tranquil seaside setting?

Imagine yourself surrounded by open spaces and magnificent views. Imagine a natural playground in which to walk, swim, fish and dive. Imagine lazy days collecting shells and thrilling days spent sand-skiing, surfing and kayaking.

Then look no further than Stone’s Self-Catering Cottages in Kayser’s Beach, only 45km south-west of East London. (Follow the R72 towards Port Alfred, past the Kidd’s Beach turnoff, until you reach the Kayser’s Beach turnoff.)

Wake up to the soothing sound of the sea in one of our spacious, fully equipped, self-catering

holiday cottages, each with its own entrance and private facilities. Be greeted by a pristine beach directly in front of the cottages, with rocky outcrops ideal for fishing on either side.

The adventurous might enjoy a walk towards the west to the mouth of the Chalumna River. (Here is where the famous Coelacanth was caught in 1938.) From the banks of the river try your luck fishing for cob or grunter.

A squash court, pool table, swimming pool, jungle gym for the little ones, and huge lawns to accommodate those impromptu ball games ensure that even the most active-minded holiday-maker does not run out of sporting options.

WIN a weekend AwAY!

Explore our safe beaches and rock pools with your children. Take time out to commune with nature and marvel at our flora.Sit quietly and enjoy our abundant birds and animals.

We have a range of cottages sleeping two, four and six people. See our website or contact us for rates and availability. Linen (duvet, pillows, fitted sheetand a bath towel) is provided and a laundry is available for the use of holiday makers. The hall can be used for conferencing or small functions (up to sixty people) or as a play area when the weather is inclement.

Day visitors (between 8:30am and 6:30pm) pay R20 per person. We regret no pets are allowed.

We look forward to welcoming you.

East Londoners often com-plain that there’s nothing to do in town. Well, the

mountain biking fraternity has long stopped singing that song.

They’ve got 3 Silos Adventure Trails to feed their need for ad-venture.

Now if you haven’t been there yet, let’s tell you why you have to go and how to get there.

Get yourself to the intersec-tion between Bonza Bay road and the N6, next to Merrifield College. Take the N6 toward Stutterheim. Follow the N6 for 8,5km, turn left after the boat shop. At the T-junction turn right, and then turn left. 400m down this road you will see the big 3 Silo's sign on your left. The safe parking area and trail start is about 300m down the road.

Now that you are there, what can you expect:

There’s a 21km, 18km, 10.7km, 7.5km track with a 4km and 2km option. The highest point is at 234m, and lowest at 70m.

The track was built by Mark Oberem, a passionate mountain biker, and those who’s ridden the track swears that it’s awe-some. The track is constantly monitored, rebuilt and adjusted when necessary to always im-prove the ride.

The ride will take you through

indigenous forest, past blue gums and rivers, and dams, with majestic views across green val-leys, and it’s even open at night (remember your headlight). The track has tight bends, bridges and fence jumps including an 80m floating bridge, but for the beginner the 2km and 4km op-tions are a treat. Game viewing is an added privilege.

But even better news .... the track is not only for mountain bikers. Walkers, trail runners and horse riders are also welcome. And when you’ve finished your ride, kick back at the Silos Café for a light meal or great cuppa and cake.

3 Silos is a great spot for ad-venture seekers and a popular and safe haven for family and friends that appreciate the out-doors and love the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the café.

The café is also able to host functions ... whether it be a kid-dies birthday, special lunch or dinner event.

Entrance Fee - R20 over week-ends, and R10 during the week.

Trails are open 24/7 ... sign in at honesty box. The Café is open Wed to Sun 7:30am to 5:30pm. For more info, contact 076 178 4696.GPS: S32 54 21.0 E27 52 10.0

Summer is knocking on the door and with the bright sunshine comes

prospects of lazy days on the beach, shorter sleeves and hemlines, higher energy levels, and if you’re a woman… the yearly refrain of “I need to get t and slim”.

And yes, we’ve tried it all, got all the diet books and neatly folded gym clothes in the wardrobe, but you still haven’t found that one thing that works.

We’ve got the answer: Mixed Martial Arts!

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground. Now I’ll admit, this sounds seriously daunting, and it is in the beginning. But you can take our word for it: this is the exercise that will let you know the next day that you worked muscles you didn’t know existed.

And it gets better: you can get this tness training in town. The East London Martial Arts & Fitness Centre is situated at 47 Commercial Road, Arcadia and headed by professional MMA instructor Sean O’Connell.

Sean’s Ladies Mixed Martial Arts Fitness Classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8pm includes circuit training, followed by striking and grappling. Not only will you improve your tness levels, you will gain core strength and acquire self-defense skills.

If this training doesn’t get us all on the beach this summer in our cossies, ripped and toned, NOTHING will!

Contact Sean on 082 6783 783 to arrange a free trial class. Fees are R100 for joining & R250 per month.

Sean also o ers Shotokan Karate (for kids from 5 years), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Self Defence classes.

Summer is knocking on And it gets better: you can get
