Why blueberries?? Blueberries contain antioxidants, which work to neutralise free radicals linked to the development of cancer, cardiovas-cular disease, and other age-related conditions. These little power-houses provide tasty ways of staying healthy. In short ... blueberries do a body good and they are yummy. Add to your smoothie, ice cream, muffins, cheesecake ... the list is end-less. The best news though, is that you can get them fresh from Blush-ing Berries, at a fraction of the price at any retail outlet!! To place your order please phone 084 250 3925.

The TFM Tomato Trot provides an opportu-nity for town-based

runners and cyclists to get out into the countryside and experience the amaz-ing training opportunities on offer just a short drive from home.

Founded by three Brakfon-tein runners, John Brown, Rocco Kruger and Danie Bessinger (of Sunrise Park Run fame) with their friend Ivan Dewing, the TFM Toma-to Trot is now in its 20th year. Thirty six runners turned out for the inaugural event and now we attract a field of over 2500 runners, walk-ers and cyclists - proof that the TFM Tomato Trot offers a unique opportunity for

the whole family to share a healthy day out in the amaz-ing scenery that the Brak-fontein area has to offer.

The rather unusual name originated from the envi-ronment in which the run takes place; through the to-mato fields and farmlands of the Brakfontein area. The first competitors through the finish also get a bag of Red Baron Tomatoes!

TFM has been a sponsor of the Tomato Trot for the past 6 years. According to Direc-tor, Hayden McLaren, “TFM is very excited to be a part of this day once again. How many other races offer the family so much from one venue? This is a truly unique race!”

20 Trots ... on the TrotIconic country-side race celebrates 20 years.

This year’s event incorpo-rates a 15km run/walk, a 55, 35, 15 and 8km cycle and, the real crowd puller, the 5km fun run/walk. All of the

races start and finish at Lily-fontein School where there is plenty of food and refresh-ments for support crews and athletes alike.

What started as a fascination for an enamel Coke sign

on a shopfront back in 1970, resulted in a love for all things - Coke. East London businessman Peter Bruton has since managed to accumulate (bought - begged & stolen) an impressive collec-tion of over 6500 Coke branded items and has recently bought another collection of 800 items, making it the biggest collection in South Africa.

Beautifully displayed in an an-tique wooden cabinet in his Bea-con Bay office, Bruton shows off

everything from yoyos, toy cars, World Cup memorabilia, cell phone, frisbees, dancing coke cans, belt buckles, matchboxes, pepper grinders and even a Bar-bie doll with the soft drinks logo printed on it. His oldest item is a 1927 Coke magazine advert. The soft drink logo Coca Cola was established in 1886 and is undoubtably one of the worlds most recognizable brands. Bru-ton says he used to drink a lot of Coke but now enjoys his Jack Daniels with Coke Zero. His col-lection of Coke artifacts can be viewed by appointment, contact Peter on 082 967 8585

ACCOMMODATION

WHAT YOU NEED (Serves 6)

1 large garlic clove, smashed1 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar1 teaspoon Thai green curry paste2 tablespoons fresh lime juice2 tablespoons fish sauce1/4 cup chopped coriander1/4 cup chopped mint1/3 cup mayonnaise4 cups coleslaw mix2 cups of either shredded roast chicken, ready-cooked prawns or tuna depending on your preference.24 rice paper wrappers (Spargs in Beacon Bay stocks these wrappers)

METHODIn a mortar, pound the garlic to a paste with the brown sugar and green curry paste. Add the lime juice, fish sauce and three tablespoons of water. Stir in half of the coriander and mint. In

a small bowl, whisk the mayonnaise with one tablespoon of the green curry dipping sauce. In a large bowl, toss the coleslaw mix with the roast beef and the remaining cilantro and mint.

Fill a pie plate with warm water. Dip two or three rice paper wrappers at a time in the water, then set them on a work surface to soften, about one minute.

Spread a scant teaspoon of the curry mayonnaise on the bottom third of each wrapper and top with a scant three tablespoons of the filling you’ve chosen (tuna etc.).

Roll the wrappers into tight cylinders, tucking in the sides as you go. Transfer the rolls to a plastic wrap-lined baking sheet and repeat with the remaining wrappers, curry mayonnaise and fill-ing. Just before serving, cut each roll in half and serve with the dipping sauce.
