DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA IN ROME

First Reading: Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12 This reading from the Prophet Ezekiel tells of the streaming, healing waters that flow from the temple. These waters restore life to the river’s inhabitants as well as the fruit bearing trees along its banks. It is believed that the water signifies blessings, whereas the lack of signifies trouble, hardship. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:9c-11, 16-17 Paul compares us to a building whose foundation has been laid by Jesus. As the people of God, we can only be solid if we are grounded in Christ. Gospel: John 2:13-22 Near the time of Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem and saw the temple had become a marketplace. He became angry and proceeded to drive out the vendors and livestock. Jesus spoke of destroying the temple and rebuilding it in three days. The Jews did not know Jesus was speaking of his body, but when his resurrection from the dead came to pass, his disciples remembered what Jesus had said and came to believe the Scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING CONTINUES Altar Server training for 4th graders on up will be held on Thursdays, November 13th & 20th from 5:00 – 6:00 pm in the Church. What a great way to get involved in the weekly Masses and taking part in our parish community. The newly trained servers will be introduced to the parish on November 23th during the 10:30 AM Mass (It is not mandatory that they attend, but it’s a nice ceremony). A brief reception will follow to welcome the new altar servers and their families to the Altar Serving Ministry. For more information contact Sue Farrell at [email protected] or 860-521-6736.

Stewardship Corner ~ As we pray today for an increase of spiritual gifts, we are reminded by the bishops’ pastoral on stewardship that good stewardship of the Church “means cherishing and fostering the gifts of all, while using one’s own gifts to serve the community of faith.”

Once again this year, the St. Peter Claver Advent Giving Tree will be located near the sacristy beginning November 22 through December 7th. The colored gift tags hanging on the tree represent several worthy organizations

and include a variety of needed "gifts". Please choose and return your unwrapped gift, with its tag firmly attached, no later than December 7th at 12:00 noon. In addition to the tags there are boxes located near the Giving Tree for organizations that have requested gift cards in lieu of gifts. Anyone who would like to help the Knights of Columbus with the gift distribution, please contact Regina Molloy at (860)-961-7804. Thank you to all in our parish family for your continued generous support of this long-standing tradition.

WHAT IS AT THE ROOT OF OUR MINISTRIES? WHAT ARE THE FRUITS OF OUR MINISTRIES?

Our Stewardship Ministry Fair will be held after all Masses on the weekend of November 22/23. Our ministry leaders will be displaying information about their ministries using the image of a tree to explain both what is in the depth, at the root of their ministry, and also what is on the surface, the fruits of their ministry. Parishioners will be invited to take a leaf off a tree to become involved in a ministry. There are many ways to put your faith into action. We hope that you will attend the fair, take a leaf, and share the joy of ministry with us this year. In addition, all children are welcome to take an acorn off a tree, with information on how they can share in our ministries as well. Come and take a look at our trees and find out what it’s all about.

Our First Town-Wide Youth Group Gathering takes place on Saturday, November 23rd from 4:00 – 6:00 pm for students in Grades 8-11 in the St. Peter Claver Parish Hall. Come join us for a “Family Feud” Game between parishes ~ Please RSVP at [email protected].

In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us that the Temple is His Father's house - a place that should be treated with respect and used only for prayer. He knew that if people did not show respect for the Temple of God, they wouldn't show respect for one another. We show respect for the house of God, the Church, because we know that Jesus is present here. Wherever we go, we can enter a Catholic Church and call it our home, because it is where we gather as God's family. This Sunday, we celebrate the Dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. It is a time to remember that we are called to live as faithful members of the Body of Christ - the Church - as a Family of Faith!

DOLLARS FOR DEEDS

This year we will be supporting Catholic Relief Services in their efforts to fight the Ebola infection in Africa. Stu-dents will receive a form at class and are asked to do a good deed in order to raise funds for CRS. All forms and donations are due by November 25th.
