Please call Nurse Linda at 476-3906 if your child is diagnosed.  Enteroviruses are common viruses that can cause upper respiratory infections or diarrheal illnesses.  Enterovirus 68 is an uncommon and especially virulent strain of the virus that has been identified in past years as well as in some recent outbreaks.  The virus starts like a typical cold but the respiratory symptoms often will quickly become pro gressively more severe. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing and in some cases a rash and fever.  Children with Enterovirus 68 may require hospitalization so you are encouraged to seek medical care if your child has symptoms more severe than a common cold.  SC DHEC and the CDC are monitoring communicable disease trends and we follow their reports. As with all upper respiratory infections, SC DHEC and the CDC advise us to:  Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after changing diapers.  Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Principal’s Post
Often in schools educators describe what they do and how they do it, but often times there is little attention dedicated to “why” schools do what they do. Our faculty and staff created 10 school beliefs this year that serve as a guide to our actions at Dutch Fork Elementary. It is our hope that you will see evidence of these beliefs in all that we do.
Mission Statement
We develop students who love the world we live in and express critical thinking through natural curiosity and wonder.
School Beliefs
1.  We believe all people deserve to feel safe, valued, and loved. 2.  We believe all children are curious about the world around them. 3.  We believe learning is a social process. 4.  We believe inquiry fosters an environment of noticing and questioning. 5.  We believe learning should be viewed from multiple perspectives. 6.  We believe learning through authentic primary sources. 7.  We believe in encouraging learners to take risks. 8.  We believe reflection should lead to change and growth. 9.  We believe that learning should lead to social action. 10.  We believe our actions should be aligned with our beliefs. Please feel free to tell us what you think.
Health Room Reminders
You may have seen the current news about enteroviruses. Here is some information that will help with questions you may have. Please call Nurse Linda at 476-3906 if your child is diagnosed.
•
Enterovirus 68 is an uncommon and especially virulent strain of the virus that has been identified in past years as well as in some recent outbreaks.
•  The virus starts like a typical cold but the respiratory symptoms often will quickly become progressively more severe. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing and in some cases a rash and fever.
•  Children with Enterovirus 68 may require hospitalization so you are encouraged to seek medical care if your child has symptoms more severe than a common cold.
•  SC DHEC and the CDC are monitoring communicable disease trends and we follow their reports.
As with all upper respiratory infections, SC DHEC and the CDC advise us to:
•  Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after changing diapers.
•  Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

3:15 pm Tue. 7:15 am - 7:30 pm
Parents, please be reminded that all cafeteria accounts need to be checked regularly and a positive balance maintained at all times. Our annual Thanksgiving dinner will be November 19 this year. Our menu will include turkey with dressing and gravy, roll, or corndog, green beans, sweet potato soufflé and choice of fruit and cookie.
Here Comes The
Holiday Store!
Our annual holiday store will be held December 2-5! This is a chance for all DFES students to
purchase holiday gifts for friends and family. Each class will have an assigned time to visit and shop. An envelope and flyer for the shop will be sent home closer to the store dates. Items range in price from 25¢ to $13, with most items under $5.00. This event relies heavily on volunteers so please contact Devon Greenan at [email protected]  if you would like to help! Thank you!
(Health News con’t. from page 1)
•
Avoid kissing, hugging, and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick.
•  Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and door knobs, especially if someone is sick.
•  Stay home when feeling sick, and obtain consultation from your health care provider.
Fourth Grade Musical Please join us on Tuesday, November 11 as our fourth graders present a musical performance called “Update Earth”! This performance will be in conjunction with our Book Fair Family Night. The performance will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the mini theater. Students participating in the program need to be in the music room at 5:30 p.m. to prepare to begin the program at 6:00 p.m. The dress for the show will be blue or green shirts (any shade) and jeans. We hope everyone plans to attend!
PTO Update
Fox Trot
Thanks to everyone for their donations to the Fox Trot. We raised $13,449! The majority of the money raised will be spent on tags for the Tag of Honor ceremonies and teacher mini-grants. Twenty-five teachers have been awarded grants so far this year. Visit www.dfespto.org  to see what teachers have purchased with grant money! Mrs. Gould’s class raised over $1,000 for the Fox Trot so their class received $100. Eight other classes raised over $500 and earned $50 for their classrooms: Mrs. Boykin, Mrs. Bradwell, Mrs. Donald, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Cosby, Mrs. Mims, Mrs. Creech, and Mrs. Sparkman.
Spirit Night
Our next Spirit Night is Wednesday, November 19 at Texas Roadhouse from 3:00- 8:30 p.m. Tell them you’re with DFES and we’ll earn a portion of the sales! Thanks for ordering pizza from Marco’s on Spirit Night last month! We earned $145. Congrats to Ms. Hardie’s class for winning the free pizza party! Remember, when you order ONLINE from Marco’s any time before April 15, DFES will earn School Challenge Points which could earn money for our school. Go to www.dfespto.org  for online ordering instructions!
Texas Roadhouse Rolls
Orders for Texas Roadhouse Rolls are due by Monday  November 10. One dozen rolls costs $4.00. Fifty percent of sales are returned to DFES. Any student who turns in at least one order will receive a token for a free kids’ meal from Texas Roadhouse. Gift cards may also be purchased, twenty percent of those sales will be returned to DFES. Gift cards and kids’ meal tokens will be delivered prior to our Texas Roadhouse Spirit Night.
