They have given a lot to our group, showing diligence and a desire to bring our Chapter up to the standards that I consider all our members find essential. Thank you for your continued efforts! I wish to again emphasize that our goal as the Kansas City Chapter of ASHRAE is to serve our membership. We have received some input about our programs and activities, but I would like to encourage you, the membership, to submit your ideas on what you want out of ASHRAE. We have another great program scheduled this month. Jay Eldridge will be speaking about Fan technology. Jay is the Applied Air Systems Development Manager for Daikin Applied. He has 25 years’ experience in the application and design of applied HVAC systems. His current responsibilities include optimizing and working with applied air systems, but he has an extensive background in chiller and heat pump systems. I would also like to mention that the Student Night tour held on October 2nd at the University of Kansas (KU) we had students from each of the 3 student branches attend, and that there were over 50 people who attended the tour. US Engineering did an excellent job running the tour and the students learned a great deal. The 2018 ASHRAE Winter Conference in balmy Chicago is just around the corner and registration is now open and Early Bird registration runs through Nov 2 nd . In closing, please let me remind you that Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 5th.       Student Activities

Student Night Student night was a great success. We were glad all the students were able to make it and see what our industry is all about. All the students had a great opportunity to be on a construction site as well as network with a lot of great engineers. We also want to thank and recognize all of those who sponsored a student: Keith Koudele, Mike Lorenz, Amy Stadler, Adam Neth, Mohammed Alshayeb, and Ralph Metcalf. Annual ASHRAE High School Job Shadowing Program Shortly after the first of the year we will be coordinating our annual Job Shadowing program. Let me know if you or your company are interested in showing high school juniors and seniors what a profession in engineering or contracting entails. It is just a 2 hour commitment with 4-6 students. Scholarships: A lot of great opportunities for scholarships, don’t wait till last minute to get them in. Last year there were very few applications turned in at the local level and even nationally for the society scholarship. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Keith Hammerschmidt ([email protected]) or Adam Neth ([email protected]) for any questions or references for society scholarship. Deadlines are fast approaching, Local KC ASHRAE scholarship is due Friday, December 8th, 2017. ASHRAE society scholarship is due Friday, December 1st, 2017. Local KC ASHRAE scholarship is available online at http://www.kcashrae.org/committees/students/ ASHRAE society scholarship for the Undergraduate Engineering Society Scholarship can be filled out at: https://www.ashrae.org/membership--conferences/student-zone/scholarships-and-grants/scholarship-program
