A ratio compares two numbers. It tells you how much you have of one item compared to the amount of another.

Compounds as Ratios

Compound is a substance made of two or more elements chemically combined in a specific ratio, or proportion.

Examples: CO2 , H2O, CH4

How does Water Change?

On pg. 35 Write and answer this question:Has water changed into a new substance(Something new)

when it changes from a liquid to a solid, for example from rain to snow/ice? Support your answer

No water has not changed into a new substance, it just changes forms because of how the molecule’s movement changes, but it is still H2O, 2 parts Hydrogen and 1 part Oxygen

A Change in matter that forms one or more new substances-

Occurs during a chemical reaction- can not be reversed(turned back into the orig. substance).

Ex: Baking a cake, cooking an egg, burning wood, corrosion- rusting
