Nourish a Child’s Mind with Encouragement Cards Weekends are tough for many students that face chronic hunger. United Way’s program provides seven easy-to- prepare weekend meals and snacks to ensure they return to school Monday ready to learn. Help nourish a child’s mind and inspire them to do their best every day. Create cards with posive phrases like “Keep it Up”, “You Rock”, and more to show that a caring adult knows they will succeed. Cards should be gender and religious neutral, and should not make reference to economic status. These cards are tucked away into the weekend food bags which are provided to more than 500 children every week during the school year. United Way’s WeekEnd Hunger Backpack program is available at seven elementary schools in Phoenix where nearly 90% of students qualify free and reduced lunch. Shower students with encouragement cards - part of Valley of the Sun United Way’s WeekEnd Hunger Backpack program. Weekends are tough for many students that face chronic hunger. United Way’s program provides seven easy-to-prepare weekend meals and snacks to ensure they return to school Monday ready to learn.
