In one installation in Hong Kong, a PUE of 1.02 was achieved. The energy consumption for cooling was reduced by more than 95% and space was reduced by 10 times compared to traditional data centers.

The data center market is growing rapidly, the technology is constantly evolving, and new challenges are arising. 3M strives to meet these unaddressed needs facing the data center market for the needs of today as well as in the future.

As an example, 3M has developed a remote source lighting technology that can be used in data centers to provide higher-quality lighting, up to 90% lighting energy reduction, reduced installation costs, and reduced maintenance costs.

Using our film technology, we developed 3M™ Enhanced Specular Reflector mirror film which is 99% reflective. This reflectivity enables:

• Efficient light transport allowing you to have a remote light source and ducts to guide the light.

• Exceptional spatial and angular control of light to direct light to exactly where it is needed.

The first Novec products were introduced in 1996 to replace ozone-depleting substances, such as chlorofluorocarbons, which had been targeted for phaseout by an international environmental treaty known as the Montreal protocol. From the start, Novec products were designed not only to be non ozone-depleting, but also to address concerns over safety, toxicity and the emerging environmental issue of global warming.

Since that time, 3M innovation has enabled the Novec brand to be extended to a variety of patented 3M products. Although each has its own unique formula and performance properties, all Novec products are designed to address the need for safe, effective, sustainable solutions in industry-specific applications. These include precision and electronics cleaning, heat transfer, fire protection, lubricant deposition and several specialty chemical applications.
