HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN (HSBP)
The High School and Beyond Plan is a state and district graduation requirement. Students must detail their plans for meeting high school graduation requirements and their plans for the first year following high school completion in a program called Xello. The plan is intended to help students identify post-secondary paths such as education, military, travel and work by thinking about their future and providing motivation for their work in high school.
A HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN INCLUDES:
Identification of career goals based on a career interest and skills inventory or assessment.
Identification of educational goals.
A four-year course plan that fulfills graduation requirements and aligns with career and educational goals.
A resume or activity log by the end of twelfth grade that provides a written compilation of student’s education, work experience, and community service.
ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS TO COMPLETE:

XELLO
Xello is the platform that the Ephrata School District uses to complete the High
School and Beyond Plan. Xello is a self-exploration and planning program that
helps students build self-knowledge, personalized plans and critical life skills.
Through Xello, students can:
complete personality assessments
discover their learning style
explore lessons
learn about careers
complete a personal profile
In Xello, students set post-secondary goals and fill out their high school course planner. Through
Xello, students can read extended Ephrata High School course descriptions and learn more
about each of the careers listed in this booklet. Some courses in each CTE Graduation Pathway
may need to be taken in a specific sequence so it is important to use this booklet as a preliminary
guide when making course selections. For example, some courses have a pre-requisite
requirement. Log into Xello to learn more.
TO LOG INTO XELLO:
1. Navigate to www.ephrataschools.org
2. Under “Schools” select “Ephrata High School”
3. Under “Students” click “High School and Beyond Plan”
4. Click to log into Xello
5. Students will use their Ephrata Google login to access Xello

WHAT IS CTE?
Career & Technical Education (CTE)
provides students with relevant,
authentic learning experiences and
empowers them with an improved sense
of wellbeing.
CTE courses integrate work-based
learning and equip students with
leadership and employability skills.
Students have the opportunity to earn
industry recognized credentials and
college credits.
Students who take more than one CTE course in the same pathway are more
likely to graduate high school, be employed full time, earn higher median
wages and enroll in postsecondary education or training.1
Through the new graduation pathway rules, Ephrata High School students have multiple options
to graduate depending on their path outlined in their High School and Beyond Plan.
Completing two or more credits in one pathway fulfills the CTE Graduation Pathway
requirement. (page 3)
2-FOR-1 COURSE EQUIVALENCIES
Some CTE courses may count for more than one graduation requirement. For example: Intro to
Computer Science can count as a CTE and Science graduation requirement. Although courses
may count for more than one requirement, the completion of a year-long course will only reward
students with 1 credit. Students need to meet the 24 credit graduation requirement. Students also
need 2 credits to fulfill the CTE Graduation Pathway requirement. Students can log into Xello to
learn more about each EHS course and read the full description.
