Year Four Chickens For the past two weeks the Year Four students have explored
the Science unit, “Lifecycles” through the wonder and
excitement of hatching chickens. Each Year Four class had an
incubator with ten eggs set at 37.7 degrees. In less than a day
several eggs hatched and within three days we had twenty
chickens. An impressive one hundred per cent success rate,
thanks to Dan Watts expert intervention to assist two or three
which found “cracking out” just too tiring!
It was very special to watch an egg vibrating, then a crack and a
foot, head or beak appear. The students have kept detailed “Chicken Diaries” noting what
they have observed each day as the chickens develop. In recent days the chickens have had
their first outdoor experiences, as the students in small groups have watched the chickens
begin to flutter their wings and explore their carefully enclosed boundaries.
Along with lots of “chicken love” students have measured many facets of a chicken.
Congratulations to Haley, Sophie and Angeline for the following detailed measurements of
their chicken.

As we prepare to farewell our mini roosters, we welcome the chance to keep our hens
which are such an integral part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.
SAKG News Students in Years Three and Four have been enjoying cooking and eating delicious fare in
the kitchen as part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. Using ingredients
sourced from their harvest in the garden session, students led by the kitchen co-ordinator
Carolina, cut, preserve, cook, serve and eat a wide variety of fresh fruit, vegetables and
herbs. This week’s delicious platter proudly held by Jamieson includes freshly made yoghurt
cheese, plum chutney made in the kitchen classes last year, oven dried apples, rosemary
crackers and flatbread.
We value the many
parents who assist with
the program and
welcome any other
parents, relatives or
friends who may be
interested in
volunteering in the
sessions on a Monday or
Tuesday to contact any
of the Year Three or Four
Teachers.

MOVIE NIGHT PACK
March 2017
Dear Families at WPPS,
Our Twilight Movie Night is approaching! The Parents and Friends Association (PFA) have been working very hard this
term on marketing, sponsorship and preparation of this event, and look forward to seeing our whole school
community attend.
If this is your first Movie Night at WPPS, you are in for a real treat! This is a family event, and an opportunity for
you and your children to come down to school after 6pm, present your pre-purchased tickets at the gate (Warrigal
Road or Banksia Street entrance only) and set up your picnic spot with beanbags, chairs, onesies etc. between the
gymnasium and Banksia Street gate.
Tickets
Tickets can be pre-purchased online or via cash at the office. Tickets are $35 for a family (up to four children) or $10
for a single. Pre-purchased tickets are entitled to a discount, so we encourage you to purchase online or with cash via
the office. They will also be available at the gate (at a higher cost), so get in early and take advantage of the saving by
pre-purchasing! Go to www.trybooking.com/OSXK to book your tickets now!
Food & Drink
We are again offering Movie Night Picnic Boxes for pre-purchase, which include items from our school community
businesses. We have limited numbers available, so get in quick! These can also be purchased using the same link
www.trybooking.com/OSXK when making your ticket purchase. One box is $20 or you may purchase two for $35. You
don’t want to miss out – they will not be available for purchase on the night.
There will also be a BBQ offering sausages and veggie burgers and a Movie Food Stall for purchasing your fairy floss,
popcorn, lolly bags and “glowies”.
Soft drinks may also be purchased from the Movie Food Stall, and alternately, for the adults, there is a Wine Stall
offering wine and beer for sale.
Colouring-in Competition
The artist in your family may wish to try their luck in winning a Family Pass to the Movie Night. See the page in this
pack.
How can you help?
Our Movie Night works like a well-oiled machine, with the assistance of parents assisting in one of the various stalls,
with set-up/pack-up, security or on the gate.
Follow this link to go to our invitation page http://signup.com/go/DC5owh It is simple to use by just entering
your email address (you don’t need an account).
Sign up and you will also receive a reminder!
Donations
We are asking for donations of bags of lollies to make up lolly bags for sale on the night. Pick up a bag or two in
your grocery shop and pop them in the box outside the office.
Raffle
Raffle tickets will be for sale at the gate. One ticket for $2 or three for $5. Don’t forget to bring some change to buy
tickets with some lovely prizes on offer.
Sponsorship
Before the movie starts, during the intermission, and at the end when you are packing up your rubbish and folding up
your picnic rug, you will see a slideshow on the big screen advertising our Movie Night sponsors.
Many of these sponsors are WPPS past and present families promoting their small businesses, or they are local
businesses who sponsor the Movie Night year after year, staying connected to the WPPS community.
If you would like to become a Movie Night sponsor, and advertise yours or a friend or family member’s business, please
let us know. For starters, your sponsorship earns you a complimentary Family Movie Pass!

FIRST AID ROOM ROSTER 2017
In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require volunteers to assist
with this task. We need approximately 40 families on our roster to ensure that
every family only needs to do this once per year. It is not time consuming and
requires approximately 15 minutes of your time on a FRIDAY.
The duties include:
Changing the sheets, pillow cases and re-making the bed with clean linen
(all provided in the first aid room).
Washing and returning the clean linen for the following Friday.
Checking that the area is clean and tidy.
Wiping over the cupboards, bench tops and the sink.
Tidying the spare clothes cupboard if needed.
This year we're using VolunteerSpot to organise the parent roster. Here's how it
works in 2 easy steps:
1) Copy/type the following link into a browser to sign up and the following page
will appear: http://signup.com/go/nhzbpS
2) Enter your email address; select the date that you would like to volunteer and
then Sign Up! It's Easy - you will NOT need to register an account or keep a
password on VolunteerSpot.
Note: SignUp.com does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer
not to use your email address, please contact me and I can sign you up manually.
Thank you in anticipation.
