symbols from the Seiretes and added their own symbols to develop an alphabet
• Used their alphabet to keep business records for trading
• First people to use coined money made by their government. (earlier people bartered-
exchanging/trading one good or service for another.)
To work, coins had to be• Accepted by everybody• Light enough to carry
(gold/silver)• Identifiable- stamped with
the mark of the king
