Message to members Please note that while here in your club it is required that members respect the facility and the club’s equipment. We ask that you clean up coffee spills if you require help the staff are able to get you cloths or mops. If you are one of our artists please be mindful of your paint we have had increasing amounts showing up on the floors and tables as well as on walls, in sinks, and on the drapes. It takes a good amount of the clubs resources to clean and repair our facility and equipment and we ask for our member’s cooperation in keeping our facility in great shape. We take pride in our centre and hope that you do too and will do your part to keep it clean and spot-less for all to enjoy. Thank you.

Message from the president. I would like to take this opportunity to express our great appreciation to all the members and teachers of our art club who so generously donated their art work to our silent auction. Their work raised $1695 towards our funding drive to make our facility totally handicap friendly. Also I would like to thank all those who bid on the artwork, especially those who were successful in purchasing them. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all our members a safe and Happy New Year. We thank you for your support of "Nifty Fifties" over the past years, and may you continue to enjoy our facility for many years to come. Please let us know if we can improve our service to you. Happy New Year. Robin Sutton President.

Library News

Thank you so much to everyone for your generous donations to our library

collections. Everything keeps our libraries vibrant and interesting . We wish

you a very happy New Year!

From the Library Volunteers

On Saturday evening, Dec. 10th approximately 68 people braved the chilly winter weather to help celebrate the Christmas Season. The dinner, including turkey and all the trimmings along with a delicious selection of tasty desserts, was catered by Leroy Brown and en-joyed by all. Rhythm of the Rockies entertained us with a selection of seasonal favorites and then led us in a sing song. Their smiling faces and joyous voices really put us in the holiday spirit.

Many lucky people went home with door prizes donated by the Nifty Fifties, Joan Traviss and Helene Gregoire. Rose Tenor won the 50/50 draw amounting to $112.50. Thanks to all those who bought 50/50 tickets. We also had the final bids placed on the art work which has been displayed in the hall for the last few months. The profit will be used to-ward making our facility more accessible to the handicapped. “THANK YOU” to all the artists who donated their artwork.

If you see any of the following wonderful volunteers, let them know you appreciate them. We couldn’t put on events like this without them. Thanks Frank Swanberg, Patti and Bob Howell, Isabelle Thiele, Doug Hlady, Joyce Oldale, Jean Goldie, Bill and Rose Tenor, Joan Traviss, Robin Sutton, Arlene Tarnowski, Karen Myhre, Helene Gregoire, the Saturday Bridge Players and all the people who pitched in at the end to help put the hall back in order. Thanks to all those who attended the party.

I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year!

Dorothy Hlady

Thank You Christmas Party Volunteers

Nifty 50s would like to thank Amica Mature Lifestyles for their donation of 5 gift baskets in December. 5

names were drawn at random from the membership list to

receive the baskets.

Seniors continue to be a prime target of fraud and financial abuse. In 2014, the Cana-

dian Anti-Fraud Centre received in excess of 20,000 complaints of Identity Theft and

Fraud and over 40,000 complaints of Mass Marketing Fraud. The total dollar loss ex-

ceeded $69 million.

For this reason, Calgary Seniors Resource Society has created a program called:

Take Care, Be Aware!

A Conversation about Fraud Prevention and Financial Abuse.

The focus of the program is to educate seniors about fraud awareness and financial

abuse, and discuss what steps they can take to protect themselves. Our volunteers

will present information on current frauds, red flags to watch for and host an interac-

tive conversation. Presentations are tailored to the time available although we ask

that a minimum of 30 minutes be made available.

Calgary Seniors is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of innovative and much needed programs and services to seniors throughout the city with the goals to end senior isolation and help seniors remain safe and independent in their homes as long as possible.

Floor Curling Thursdays at 1:00

Played with the same rules as ice curling, floor curling uses

wooden rocks and shuffleboard wax on a hard floor.

Don’t be intimidated, this low impact activity can be done from standing or sit-

ting and there are throwing aids so you don’t even have to bend! Unlike ice curl-

ing there is no sweeping!

Put your fun and competitive hat on and throw some rocks, have some coffee and

enjoy a nice time with friends.
