COMING UP

In anticipation of the Museum’s 80th Anniversary in 2011, contemporary artist Jacob Hashimoto was commissioned to create a large-scale, site-specific artwork to hang in the Donald W. Reynolds Grand Hall. Hashimoto’s sculpture — fabricated from thousands of small “kites” — is dedicated to the Volunteers in Art (VIA), in recognition of the many individuals who donate countless hours to advance the institution’s mission. bit.ly/jacobhashimoto

Major sponsorship for this exhibition is provided by the Volunteers in Art (VIA) and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

The oft-forgotten natural vegetation found in suburban and urban areas is the focus of Kim Abeles’ work. Enchanted Forest, Dodger Stadium calls attention to the plants and trees that eke out their lives among the skyscrapers and concrete of downtown Los Angeles. This artwork was purchased for the Permanent Collection by Paul and James Dugan in memory of Susan Dugan, Washoe County School District Educator. bit.ly/kimabeles
