PASTORAL CHAT My dear readers, 1. Labouring in the Philippines Our church has been supporting Pastor Dig-nadice of the Philippines for the past 37 years, labouring in “Volcano Country” in the Albay province, some 500 km south of the capital Manila. In March, earlier this year, I led a team from Pandan to visit Pastor Dignadice on the occasion of the 36th Anniversary of Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Bicol. There we had a first-hand experience of what it is to work and live within 10 km of a “live” volcano, Mt Mayon 8,077 ft in height. The active volcano is said to be the most beautiful in all the world. We saw the moun-tain’s perfectly symmetrical cone spuing wisps of smoke and volcanic ash. In the past 400 years, Mt Mayon has had 49 recorded eruptions. The most destructive was in 1814 when the lava flow covered the entire neigh-bourhood up to a depth of 30 feet. The local church building was totally buried, except for the bell tower. Trees were burnt down and rivers choked. Some 2,200 local residents perished. It was the most deadly eruption on record. Does it not bring to mind the destruction of Sodom in the day of Lot? The big question with no ready answer: when will Mt Mayon erupt again? Being related to earthquakes, it is also a sign of our Lord’s soon return. 2. Letter from “Volcanoland” Pastor Dignadice writes from Legaspi City, Bicol, having been discharged from hospital. His letter follows: Dear Dr Tow, By God’s grace we are able to do the ministry that God has entrusted to us. There are obsta-cles, but God is showing His protection and provision to our church and family. We thank the Lord for protecting Caleb from the hands of the carjackers. The vehicle has also been recovered although there are slight

damages. Esther has given birth to a baby girl the day when Caleb was carjacked. In all these things we praise God for His watchful care. Thank you and the Church for your prayers and financial support. We are able to pay my hospital bill and other expenses, and we are able also to continue constructing the staff quarters. We are now finishing the construc-tion for Caleb who will be getting married this coming January, and also for Esther and her husband Pastor Jerry with their new born baby Laura Pearl. We are also constructing male and female comfort rooms and kitchen for our church. We deeply appreciate and thank the members of Calvary Pandan for being our partner in the ministry here in Bicol. God bless you all. We are able to discuss with the group of en-gineers regarding the projected Bible School and the property of Metrobank. We are just waiting for the draft and the total cost of the whole project. I pray that God would give us strength to fulfill His work here in Bicol. Please continue to pray for our ministry to the military. We are teaching the new batch of police trainees totalling 158 persons. Newly opened opportunity for Christian witness: Caleb and Pastor Jerry are now conducting Bible studies to the college students every Monday. And they are increasing in numbers. We pray for the salvation of their souls. God bless your heart! EMMANUEL, Pastor Leoncio D. Dignadice 3. “Man proposes God disposes” Earlier in the year (in February) the Pastor and Session of Ebenezer BP Church in Mel-bourne had invited me for their 11th year Thanksgiving. I had planned to be away for about 10 days to minister to the folks there. After May this year, things are different, and I can go for a longer period. So I shall be

taking leave of you all at Calvary Pandan, leaving Pastor Quek and the Session in charge. Meanwhile, I also received an invitation from Brother Joey Seow, SIA Manager, London. Brother Joey said, “Dr Tow, this is my third and last year of posting in London. We have living quarters overlooking the River Thames. Do come before we are transferred back to Singapore.” My daughters agreed that it was a good change for me to get away from the house for a while. So, a travel plan has been drawn up, for me to minister to the BP Churches in London, and after a break of one week, to Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. This will take me away for a large part of October to December 2010. Please remember me and the ministry in prayer.

4. Continue to pray for “BP 60 years” Thanksgiving “In everything by prayer and supplication,” exhorts the apostle Paul. Let us commit our Thanksgiving Service in commemoration of 60 years of God’s good grace to our Church in fervent prayer, daily. Much prayer, much blessing! Pray that the Lord will preserve and increase our witness for the perilous times ahead, until He come. Without the Lord we can do nothing! The days are evil, the forces of ecumenism – “One World” – are getting stronger by the day. Without the Lord we fall! So, dear reader, will you please pray without ceasing? See what great thing the Lord will do, for His own glory! Faithfully in the Lord Dr SH Tow

2010 SEPTEMBER MANDARIN FAMILY CAMP REPORT Thank God that He has moved and brought fifty-one brethren and friends from different age groups to attend this year’s Mandarin Family Camp. Besides that, there were also a few brethren who came to visit and listen to the sermons together with us. At the camp, we have witnessed how the Holy Spirit has touched the hearts of the people to enable them to understand His truths. All praise and thanks to God as one of the friends who attended the camp has received The Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Thank God for His abundant providence. He is gracious and has supplied us with more than enough funds for the cost of the camp. We were blessed to have a safe and comfort-able place to stay and also sumptuous food to enjoy. The Lord has also used the programs and various activities to break the boundaries of all ages and backgrounds so that we can get to know and share openly with one another. Thank God for Preacher Ko Ling Kang who delivered messages from the book of Jude which benefited us spiritually. There were eight messages in the camp on “The Doctrine of our Common Salvation”, “Understanding ‘The Faith’”, “The Problems of Our Genera-tion”, “Remembering the Perilous Times of the Past”, “Realizing the Perilous Times of the Present”, “Knowing the End of the Perilous Times”, “Believers in these Perilous Times”, and “God’s Comfort in these Perilous Times”. Though the camp has concluded, we pray that the Lord continues to help us to always remember His Word and to reinforce sound doctrine in these perilous times. Below are a few of the campers’ testimonies:

Brother Qing Sheng I truly thank God for granting me this opportunity to take part in this camp. I thank God

Page 4: Not by Bread Alone · Hymn RHC 384 My Jesus, I Love Thee Presentation of Tithes & Offerings *Doxology2/Offertory Prayer Scripture Reading Matthew 4:1‐12 Hymn RHC 446 Lord, Speak

that he has led me to find the One whom I can depend on, for the Holy Spirit to work in my hearts, to cause me to become a child of God. In this camp I have learnt much about the Word of God.

Sister Ruby Wang I truly thank God for giving me this precious opportunity, whereby I was able to take part in this Mandarin Family Camp. In the three short days that we had, I have made many new friends, and also learnt many things. I have truly experienced a true care and simple love that was abundant throughout the fellowship in this camp. It is indeed an extremely rare and precious treasure that cannot be found in the world. The Lord Jesus has done so much for us, sacrificing so much, in guiding us down this path of light. Shouldn’t we do something in return? We have not done enough, not given enough. Instead we remain selfish, we remain weak. Thus we must all do our part, to try hard to be a Christian that is pleasing to God, to ensure that the things that we do are worthy to God, worthy of His selfless sacrifice. As for myself, through this camp, I have suddenly realized that I am still spiritually very weak, as like a babe. But I will endeavor to change with God’s strength. I will try hard to read God’s Word. I will force myself to turn unto the Lord, to no longer avoid Him or regard Him with indifference. With a sincere heart I will come to worship, and ask the Lord to brush away the dust that is shrouding my spirit. Even if God’s Word is deep and difficult to understand, I will yet endeavor to understand it. I believe that this is what God wants to tell me through this camp. As the Lord is changing me, I too should endeavor to do my part, to be a true Christian, to conquer the path before me with head held high, with utmost reverence for my Almighty Lord. All through His love and His grace. All thanks and praise to God, Amen.

Sister Su Xiao Jun I thank our Father in Heaven for protecting us and allowing our Mandarin Family Camp to be a great success. This camp was blessed with the watchful care of God the Father, the abiding presences of our Lord Jesus, and the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit. We have all been preserved in our spirit, soul and body. All the campers have also grown spiritually. We have all also been brought home safely. All glory to God! We thank God that through this camp, our family has indeed gained so much. My grand-son knows the true God and continues to walk with Him. My granddaughter has grown a lot spiritually. My husband who is also my brother desires to strengthen the areas in which he is spiritually weak. After listening to the teachings, I have realized that we are indeed living in perilous times. Thus we have to be sober, to watch and pray, to love one another, to build ourselves up in the most holy faith, praying in the spirit. We must also put on the whole armor of God to be a soldier of Christ, and also to take on the responsibility of prayer. May God bless everyone who attended this camp.

Brother Pui Ming Li Thank God that I can gain so much from the Mandarin Family camp. Although I have done studies on the book of Jude before, but never this thorough. Through the exposition of the speaker, we can now understand the writer’s care concerning the believers and the doctrine. Earnestly persuading the believers to steadfast, especially in these perilous times. Allowing us to absorb the essence within. Not only that, it has been a while since I attended such a body refreshing, mind renewing and uplifting camp.

Sister Irene Yap Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, By the work of the Holy Spirit, our church has organ-ised a Mandarin family camp on 26/9/2010. Thank God, for I believe all the partakers would agree that this is a God honoring and man edifying camp. God bless preacher Ling Kang, allowing him to preach boldly through out all the sessions from the first message "The Doctrine of our common Salva-tion" to the eighth message " God's comfort in these perilous time" in a clear and under-standable way, we are all being fed spiritually. Our loving Savior once again reminds us to discern between true and false doctrine. As we live in this generation, it is unavoidable that our youth will face unrighteousness at work or at school. When we are facing temptation or in doubt, may the Lord remind us to girt our loins with truth, never compromise. Then our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, steadfast and sure. Taking the shield of faith with the helmet of salvation. As God keeps us with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we can live a victorious life. Apart from that, we have our game time. Sword drill and games of all sorts while eating lemons and drinking 1.5L water as games punishment. Many lessons were being learnt through those creative and interesting games. Such is a joyful, peaceful and an unforget-table camp. Are you looking forward to the next one?
