regulations preventing excessive noise levels. The use of a quieter diamond blade is a perfect solution to drastically

reduce the sound generated directly at the job site. The new Norton Silencio provides an unprecedented noise-

dampening effect, reaching reductions of up to 15 dB(A).

Diamond blades generate noise due to the air flowing through the gullets while in operation. The Silencio has two

complementing patent pending dampening technologies. The oscillation absorbing steel-center and offset gullets

are designed to prevent airflow under the blade guard to cancel the whistling noise created by traditional blades. The

graph below shows the noise made by an idle running masonry saw, noise generated by a standard diamond blade and

then the exceptional performance of the new Norton Silencio!

Sound levels are defined by their frequency in Hertz (Hz) and measured in decibels, dB(A) on sonometers. The scale to the right starts a 0 dB(A) level, which is the weakest level the human ear can perceive. A normal conversation is at a 50 dB(A) level and the harmful threshold starts at 85 dB(A). At 120 dB(A), noise can start to cause pain. Continuous exposure at lower levels may take longer but the results are the same, permanent irreversible hearing loss. Attending a rock concert with a 115 dB(A) noise level is the same as a standard diamond blade being used on a masonry, flat or hand held saw.
