Rationale

The students we are teaching today are very different than students we taught ten years ago. The ability to access information anytime, anywhere is the reality of our learners. Students are looking for ways to apply their knowledge to extend their learning. Our system needs to respond to our learners.

Recently, the Ministry of Education has released BC’s Education Plan. This plan outlines the need to prepare our learners for the 21st Century.

We are preparing our learners for jobs that don’t even exist yet.

Project Based Learning

In Project Based Learning (PBL), students go through an extended process of inquiry in response to a complex question, problem, or challenge. Rigorous projects help students learn key academic content and practice 21st Century Skills, such as collaboration, communication, & critical thinking.

Project Based LearningStudents in PBL,• gain a deeper understanding of

concepts and standards at the heart of a project;

• build vital workplace skills and lifelong habits of learning;

• address community issues, explore careers, interact with mentors, and apply technology;

• present their work to audiences beyond the classroom.

PBL may motivate students who struggle to find connections between school curriculum and their lives.

This may include where you want to go in the future. You will pair this map with research on the geographic regions which you will use to describe the region as it may have appeared to your ancestor or appears today.

Feedback• For us *'s experience is, as they say, "night and day" from last year to this. I mean

this in the positive. * is far more engaged, less stressed, and I believe more content. He is also clearly enjoying the work more than the traditional approach. There seems to be an increase in opportunity for him to feel successful and to have some experience with leadership which is just so, so important for all youth at this age. I can speak for both my husband and I to share that we are very happy with the NLC and what you and Beth are able to offer the students. Don't hesitate to let us know how, as parents, or community partners we can support the program.

• Good morning. % and I used the rubrics to review his slides. Those rubrics are so great!!! The slides are now ready for your re-review. Thank you for giving % this opportunity to have some learning time with mom! Ask % about www.easybib.com. He is still a bit unsure about the difference between resources and references. We had some fun using easybib to make his references slide :)
