CHanging oF tHe seasons
Polar twiligHt I , Lapland welcomes the twilight period; a time when the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon at all during the day. is phenomenon, also known as the polar night, can last up to 51 days in the northernmost regions of Lapland. e darkness is, however, brightened by the snow cover, moon and fl aming Northern Lights.
Although the sun does not rise, the twilight time provides a beautiful shade for around four hours a day. In addition to the refl ection of snow, the Northern Lights also brighten the night. e twilight gives the Lappish winter its own magical qualities. What could possibly be better than travelling in the fell high-lands and enjoying the heavens coloured by the Northern Lights.
T of Northern Lapland lives to the rhythm of the seasons, and the chang-ing of the seasons is more distinct than anywhere else. In November following the arrival of snow, twilight falls upon the region covering the landscape in a blue tint that lasts a couple of months. e Northern Lights can be spotted in the wintertime
night skies when the temperature is below freezing. In the springtime, the glisten-ing snowscapes appear with the sunshine which continues to shine day and night during the summer months. Au-tumn vibrantly colours the nature for hikers to enjoy.
