NESD’s school nutrition staff strive to make lunchtime the favorite part of every student’s day. From their friendly
greetings in the cafeteria and the love they dish out with every student’s meal, to how they encourage kids to eat
more fruits and vegetables, our school nutrition professionals are truly heroes.
On Friday, May 1, we show our appreciation for the school nutrition staff as part of School Lunch Hero
Day. Let's shower our school lunch heroes with thanks, cards, and recognition.

Congratulations to the NHS Class of 2020 Commencement student speakers! Each year, seniors have the oppor-
tunity to audition to be one of the student speakers at commencement. We normally select two speakers in addi-
tion to our valedictorian. This year, the student speakers are Carly Olmo, Bethany Wilt, and our valedictorian,
Hannah Wildasin. No matter what form our commencement takes, we intend to incorporate the speeches of
these fantastic seniors!

A big thank you to this crew (Ms. Sue Howe, Mrs. Amy Nohe, Mrs. Lisa Kinsinger, Mrs. Jodi Albin, Mrs. Cathy
Musser, Ms. Bria Kadish, Mrs. Jodie Slonaker (missed her picture), Mr. Joel King, and student volunteers, Sa-
rah Sowers, Taylor Forry, Chloe Barlett, and Erick Sowers. Thanks to their help, we were able to pack and dis-
tribute 250 bags of food for our families participating in the Back Pack Program today!
Well we may not be in our building, but our Shallow Brook Intermediate students are still working hard and
showing all the traits that we look for in our students of the month. We can't do everything we used to do in
school right now, but picking out our students of the month seemed to come easy. We are so excited and
#Bobcatproud of these students!

Congratulations to NHS Senior for being recognized with the NHS Class of
2020 Turnaround Achievement Award! NHS staff nominate and vote for
the student who best demonstrated a turnaround from the beginning of his
or her academic career at NHS to the senior year. Aubrey has made incred-
ible gains in her time at NHS, from her growing commitment to academics
to her increased ability to manage her behaviors and regulate her an-
ger. School hasn't always been easy for Aubrey, but she persisted by refus-
ing to give up and building relationships with trusted adults who helped
guide and mentor her. After graduation, Aubrey plans to study cosmetology
at Empire Beauty School. Our entire staff is incredibly proud of Aubrey and
the path she has created. We can't wait to see what she accomplishes in the
next phase of her life!
The Turnaround Achievement Award is an annual recognition conducted by
the York Area Bowling Proprietors' Association for all York County high
schools. They honor each school's winner with a plaque for the student and
the school. Additionally, scholarships are awarded to some of the recog-
nized students. In these challenging economic times, we want to thank
the York Area Bowling Proprietors' Association for their ongo-
ing commitment and support of the Turnaround Achievement Awards.
The art department participated
in a virtual 5K this past week to
help celebrate Earth Day and Ar-
bor Day. Run For The Trees, the
Happy Little 5K benefited Michi-
gan state parks. Art teachers
can’t resist a Bob Ross themed
event.
Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association (York and Adams Chapter) Award Winner
The PMTA/DRIVE award is given yearly to a senior at Northeastern High School planning on
entering the trucking, forklift or logistics field.
Trevor Smith completed the Driving Resources and Innovation in Vehicular Education
(DRIVE) class, which prepares students to obtain their CDL permit and driving skills to be-
come a safe and competent driver. His skills on the CDL simulator were at the highest level
of any student in the class, earning him a Gold Shifter (for mastery of double clutching, shift
up, shift down and gear recovery) and Gold Mirrors (for backing skills).
Trevor is currently working at APX York Sheet Metal and plans to get his CDL to assist his
company in deliveries of their products.
Congratulations to Trevor Smith earning this $500 award!

Why should you give to Give Local York 2020?
https://www.givelocalyork.org/organizations/northeastern-foundation
We understand that this is an unprecedented time for our entire com-munity, filled with a lot of uncertainty. We also understand that the services these organizations provide have become even more essential to all of us. Our community is hurting and it's time for us to show that we've all got each other's backs.
In 2019, Give Local York made history by raising $3.2 MILLION for more than 300 nonprofits in our community. Together, we can support causes across our community that will impact local kids and families, education, housing, and healthcare, our environment and economic development, the arts, history, culture and more. When we all give lo-cal, we make a huge impact. We may not be able to celebrate togeth-er, but that doesn't mean we don't have reason to celebrate!
Congratulations to Candice Reynolds!
Shout out to Marisal's Pizza and PIM parents for helping NMS PIM provide
lunch, drinks and snacks for the teachers and admin working to ensure students
could get their star awards and locker items back and to the cafeteria staff pre-
paring and distributing meals to NESD families in need. The food was amazing
and everyone was so appreciative. PIM is glad to give back to those who are al-
ways giving for NMS students.
