Northalta News
May 2017
Elzbieta joined Northalta in 2004. When she decided to open her own day home she says “it was the best
choice I ever made”. Elzbieta values diversity and provides a variety of opportunities to learn about other
cultures through food, songs, dance and dress up play. She was awarded the Alberta Child Care
Professional Award of Excellence in 2007. Elzbieta’s visits are a pleasure as she demonstrates
professionalism and a fun energetic attitude.
“In our opinion Ela provides an exceptional level of child care. Her pre-school program sets the kids up for success
in kindergarten by providing them with the appropriate math and language arts skills. The meals are always homemade,
often with organic ingredients, nourishing their brains and bodies. On top of all this, Ela is warm and caring and treats
everyone like family. We are very lucky to have our kids in her extremely capable care.” Facundo family
“Ela provides the best childcare to our son! She is such a sweet, loving, caring, amazing woman. B. loves her so much. He learns so much at her day home. She is always playing games with them, teaching them about letters, colors, shapes, etc., doing arts and crafts, and spending time outside. Ela spends a lot of time teaching and showing our son new things, but also teaching him right from wrong which I really appreciate. All of her kids are so sweet, well behaved, and respectful. They all say please, thank you, and excuse me. It is very important to my husband and I that our son is at a day home that teaches him respect and right from wrong but is also with someone who cares for him and loves him. Ela takes a lot of time to prepare for her day home kids each week. Between cooking the best and healthiest food for them and creating new and exciting ways to learn and play she keeps very busy. I am beyond grateful for her and for all the love she gives to our son. I could not imagine being so comfortable with leaving my son with anyone else. She deserves every award and praise in my mind. Thanks!” Guest Family

Provider Appreciation Day Month
It Takes a Village to Raise a Child
Definition (Expression): an ancient African proverb says it takes a whole village to raise a child, which means the responsibility of raising a child does not lie in the parents alone, but also with the extended family and in some cases the whole community. Day home Providers are part of the “village”. Northalta and the Providers take this responsibility seriously by understanding our role in helping bolster, strengthen and reinforce the lessons the parent is trying to teach their child. The Provider’s family also deserve special acknowledgement for their role in the day home. With family support, Providers create an environment of which contributes to children’s ongoing growth and development. Providers do an amazing job of balancing the children in their day home.
Northalta appreciates and recognizes Providers for
their ongoing dedication to child care.

ACCREDITATION OF EARLY LEARNING AND CARE SERVICES
Accreditation - Keep Rolling! Part 3 We are looking forward to the Accreditation - Keep Rolling Part 3 workshop on May 29th.
During the past 2 Accreditation workshops we have discussed the importance of creating and maintaining a high
quality child care environment. We will be having the 3rd
session of our Accreditation workshops on May 29th
. This
workshop will discuss how we incorporate community into our day homes and provide an opportunity for
Providers to discuss their community involvement. We ask providers and families to share their community
contacts so other Providers may include this in their programming. If you brought in a music teacher, dance
teacher, a firefighter or a popsicle truck let us know.
We see Providers are:
Taking an active role in creating an environment that supports learning through play. Offering a program that is inclusive to children from diverse families and cultural backgrounds, and to children
with additional support needs. Reflecting on program planning; are the children benefitting from the program? Are the children and families
offering input and ideas? Having authentic conversation with the children; hearing what they have to say and how they feel. Inviting families to be an active part of the day home through meaningful interactions and conversations. Promoting the importance and making connections to different community resources and organizations. Including elements of nature in the day home environment; plants, fish tanks, gardens and rocks. Promoting physical literacy with children; playing tag, basketball, soccer, baseball.
Provider attendance at the workshop is required.
Parents can also support their Provider by promptly picking up their child on workshop day.
This allows all our providers to participate in this professional development opportunity.
Parents are welcome to join our workshops to better familiarize themselves
with the information and support their Providers.
Children deserve child care that promotes the principles the standards are based upon.
