Cadet Phillips arrives atencampment
On this day in June, ninety-eight cadets signed up toattend the 2011 NC WingSummer Encampment.Whether the cadets came toButner just to be with theirfriends or if the cadets came
to get their Mitchell awardis debatable. The cadetswho have now been dividedinto six flights are anxiousto get ready, but first, theymust unpack, setup the bar-racks, and study their OIs(operating instructions)before they can learn newthings. There are six flightsand two squadrons thatteach the subjects of leader-ship, aerospace education, ground team, mission radiooperating and flight linemarshalling. Each flightdoes their own unique spe-cialty. Along the way thecadets will be rappelling, challenging the obstacle
course, shooting firearmsunder supervision on therange, and learning teamwork. The first thing thecadets do at encampment isto report in to headquar-ters. The reporting proce-
dure is as follows: the cadetmust stand in a ripple line
in front of the door he orshe is entering, the cadet
approaches the desk andsalutes saying, Cadet(insert name) reporting asordered Sir, Mam, Ser-geant, or Chief. the officeror NCO then returns thesalute and sends the cadet to

So, the burning question of the
day has been, What the heck
are Raisins, Osmotic? Or, in
normal English, What are
Osmotic Raisins?
After an exhaustive search on
the Internet, and with Kudos to
Capt. Paul Twiddy for provid-
ing a Verizon hotspot, Osmotic
Raisins are simply..
From Yahoo Answers we get
that regular raisins are natural,
with no additives. Osmotic
raisins are infused with a type
of sugar to make them sweeter.
But, how do they taste? From
Notpurfect.com we get this
little tidbit from an MRE re-view: The raisins were pack-
aged in a foil container marked
Rasins, Osmotic. I have no
clue how osmotic raisins differ
from the ordinary variety; but
the raisins were nasty. I could-
nt finish them. You decide.

Major Williams
Major Williams is one of the AE(aerospace education) instructors
for this years encampment. Hesays that everything is ahead ofschedule and that the flight com-manders are doing a great job inleading, and that the cadets areeager to learn. He said to sum itall up that encampment is run-ning smoothly. His flight has al-ready finished their solid fuelrockets, he also has a technicalrating in public affairs.
SAFETY
Now we all know the hard
reality. Safety is not the
reason you are at encamp-
ment. It is extremely im-
portant though. PT and
drill formations are one of
the biggest hazards on adaily basis. Risks with these
activities are dehydration,
tripping, and fainting due to
locking your knees. These
risks can be quickly and
efficiently eliminated with
these easy to remember
controls. DRINK WATER
a lot, yet do not exceed one
quart a hour and twelve
quarts a day. Watch where
you step. You dont wantto be in the sick bay because
you fell in a hole. Seri-
ously, do you want to be the
one cadet to step into a hole?
At encampment? Do not
lock your knees. Ever.
Always check yourself If
you do you will faint and
no one will catch you. If
everyone follows these
simple rules we will have
the best encampment
ever.

SAFETY
O-rides are one of the
greatest experiences a cadet
can have. There is nothing
like flying through the air.
Although fun, it is ex-
tremely dangerous. The
results of an error are catas-trophic. But, with some
easy to follow controls it
can be the best experience
of your cadet career. Par-
ticipate in the pre-flight
inspection, maybe you will
see something the pilot
missed. Always obey your
pilot.
The obstacle course is a
very challenging activity and
confidence builder. It is a
really awesome activity.
However, there are some
major risks. Dehydration is
the main cause of the ma-
jority of the injuries in the
summertime. Dehydration
can make you do weird
things when the brain
isnt receiving the neces-
sary fluids. To solve this
simple problem you need
to drink LOTSof water
while following the limitsof one quart an hour and
twelve quarts a day. Have
fun at encampment, but
STAY SAFE while doing
so.
