Why I Am Walking in the LI2Day Walk on June 10thby Debbie Goldman, The Maurer Foundation, Development Manager

I am walking in honor of my mom who was diagnosed over a quarter of a century ago. I still remember my dad driving her every day for weeks from their home in Nassau County to Manhattan for her radiation treatment. The thought of her not having been here to watch her 5 grandchildren grow up is unfathomable. We are fortunate.

I am walking for the 4 women in my hometown, women in their 40’s and 50’s, moms of my children’s friends, who ultimately lost their hard-fought battle, leaving behind husbands and young children.

I am walking for my two sorority sisters and a professional colleague and friend who are fighting the fight today.

I am walking for all of the women I do not have a per-sonal connection to that are fighting this dreadful disease.

Most of all, I am walking for my two daughters who I hope and pray will never be faced with this horrible diagnosis and will see a cure in their lifetime. I am walking so one day I don’t have to.

Bowlers “Strike” It Big At the 2017 Pink BowlNineteen teams of enthusiastic bowlers braved the wintry mix of snow and sleet and heated up

the lanes with their competitive spirit at The Maurer Foundation’s 8th Annual Pink Bowl on Sunday, February 12th. The bowling fundraiser held at Bowlmor Lanes in Melville, was once

again sponsored by Sperry Federal Credit Union and raised over $10,000 for breast health education programs on Long Island.

A huge thank you to all those who participated! Congratulations to the winning bank team, Branch Out, from

Sperry FCU and to Charles Schwab, the winning non-bank team. Also congratulations are in order for Scott Alers from Charles Schwab, who received the award for Best Male Bowler, and Minnie Nevins, Best Female Bowler.

Between scary data about recombinant bovine growth hormones (rBGH), estrogen, fat and antibiotics on one end and on the other end the health benefits of vitamin D, calcium, minerals, and protein, it’s hard to know if dairy is considered healthy these days.
