New regulations will be coming into force on the 1st of April 2018 regarding energy efficiency standards for non-domestic rental

properties in the UK. The new regulations require landlords to take measures to ensure their property’s EPC rating falls into bands A-E.

From the 1st of April 2023, landlords will be prohibited from continuing to rent properties that do not meet these standards.

Almost a fifth of all non-domestic property landlords could be affected by the new regulations, according to the EPCs currently lodged on the register with the UK government.

The energy efficiency asset band ratings for registered non-domestic properties are as follows:

The remaining 0.02% of properties are not recorded. These figures are based on buildings with EPCs in England and Wales that have been built, sold or let since EPCs first came into existence in 2008. Therefore, according to these figures 18.27% of non-domestic landlords will be required to make improvements to ener-gy efficiency within their properties before the 1st of April 2018.
