The Dean’s Scholarships are intended to attract high-caliber students to the University of Saskatchewan. Students will be judged on their entrance average and their publication record. Preference will be given to PhD applicants and Canadian citizens.

To be eligible to be nominated for a Dean’s Scholarship, the student’s entrance GPA must be at least 85.00% and show evidence of previous research productivity. See http://www.usask.ca/cgps/admissions/admissions-process.php#Calculatingadmissionaverage for instructions on

calculating the GPA.

A requirement of this award is that funding from other sources will be combined with the scholarship to provide support for the 2nd or 3rd year for Master or Doctoral students, respectively. Frequently Asked Questions: Can units with a one-year Master’s program nominate a student for this scholarship?

Unfortunately, no. One of the requirements of this scholarship is that the unit will provide a second year of Master’s funding to the recipient, which means the recipient must be registered in a multiple-year Master’s program.

For what reason can a Dean’s scholarship be deferred and what is the procedure?

International students who are unable to receive their visa in time to attend the regular January/May/September 2018 term can request that the scholarship be deferred. The request must be made by the student’s supervisor, who must also confirm that the unit will approve deferring the student’s admission. Deferrals will be considered by Heather Lukey ([email protected]) on a case-by-case basis and cannot extend beyond 12 months when the student would have originally started.

What is the scoring process? What is the maximum score a nominee can receive?

Nominees are awarded points based on the program they are entering

PhD – 2 points; Master’s – 1 point

GPA – maximum 5 points

Publications – maximum 6 points

Presentations – maximum 3 points A PhD nominee with a GPA of 100%, 10 publications and 10 presentations can receive a maximum score of 16.

Why is the Graduate Chair/Department Head signature required? By signing the nomination form, the Graduate Chair/Department Head is committing to providing the matching support required by this scholarship.

My nomination from Round 1 started his graduate program in January 2018 but didn’t win a scholarship. Can I nominate him in Round 2? Unfortunately, no. The Dean’s scholarship is for entering students only. If the student has already started his graduate program, he is no longer eligible.

My international student has to fulfill a language requirement during his first term here. Will his scholarship be paid during that time? Unfortunately, no. Recipients of the Dean’s scholarship must be fully qualified at the time the scholarship is taken up.
