Excepted Packaging

• Excepted packaging is used to transport material with extremely low levels of radioactivity. Excepted packaging are excepted (excluded) from specific packaging, labeling, and shipping paper requirements; they are however required to have the letters “UN” and the appropriate four-digit UN identification number marked on the outside of the package.

New or relatively new box Packaging material – No peanuts or foam Fiber tape in two directions Notice included with the shipment stating:

“This package conforms to the conditions and limitations specified in 49 CFR 173.424 for radioactive material, excepted package – instruments or articles, UN2911
