Squadron~ Group Assemblies:

Assemblies were very ~ood. d.epartei Cotteamore buncher 2 minutes early with 38 aircraft.

c. Route ~ Englana:

Control points were made early to enable the troup to fall into proper=#= 9 position in the iivision column. A wide turn was made at Control Point 1 a~d the ~roup departei the English Coast in ~ood division formation.

a. Flight to Tar~et:

ili~ht to the tar~et was almost as brie£ed--variencies £ram briefed course occured only to follow troupe ahead. The primary (VIS) tartet was covered and the ,roup cut short at the briefed course to gain tiae lost when theipreceding groups cut short at Heli~ole.nd. lhen it was seen that the secondary {VIS) was abo cowred. a run was -.ee on the seconiary PFF. When e. break in the clouds showed the MPI the bombardier took over to -.ke a Tisual assist. but the bomb release point haci been passe«. '!'he ~roup then went to a last resort target (Haiarnar)

b. Bombin!j Run:

~Squadron:

The scouting force could not be contacted. due to the Air Commanier "B" che.Jmel being outo The secondary PFF tar@;et was planned to be bombed. but the Mickey Operator dii not have sufficient time to~t up proper course. Therefore when the leader broke into the clear theye was not time enou&h to set up course or pnperly synchronize. The bombs were not released and the lead squadron began looking tor a target of opportunity. A small rail line was found at Hade.mar and bombed with good results. All ships sal voed. 1he AFCE was OK.

High~ Low Squadrona:

As far as can be learned a nonnal PFF run, with possible Tisual assilt, was made on the seoonie.ry PFF target--the lead AjC has landed. i:a. Belguim and det,iled information is not available. Bomba were away at 1255!-- the lead ship salvoed; all others 50 foot intervalameter settin&•

The low squadron began the bomb run expecting it to be PFF. About 20 seconds from the target the leader called for the lead bombardier to give visual assist. But as the s quad ron broke into the clear it was too late to make a good sychronization on the MPI ., dut to the fact ground speed (328t~H). and the target beinc almost directly beneath the ship. Bombs were released at 1255. The lead se.lvoed; all others used e. 50 £tj intervalameter setting. The AFCE was OK. Results were unobservei.

c. Fli£}\t ~ Tarr;et:

Af'ter the low and high squadrons had bombed Kasael the r;roup made a left turn and then ~e along on course attempting to find a target of opportunity. Rather than form over Koblenz the r;roup turned to the left and selected the Hada.ma.r Y/raz-d:s as a tart;et. After the lead squadroa bombed the briefed course was followed out--deviati~ only to follow ~ group ahead.

d. Return to Base:

As briefed.. A normal landing was made in poor Ti.sibili ty. AjC ~-8-4:54-found it necessary to land at A-69 in Belr;ium -- the crew is aafe. All other A/C landed safely at home base.

e. eather:

eather was described as ~enerally ajlo cloud cover over entire contineat, with scattered breaks at intervals. 10/10 over primary and visual secondary, and aTeragint; 5/10 to ajlo over PFF seconaary. Lit;ht non-persistant contrails were encountered at aaly two points on the route.

f. Fighter Support:

· Fighter support observed at infrequent intervals, appearing to be occupied in fending off enemy A/C.

t• Comments on Formation:

Very t;ood for the most part, despite ~he contusion over the target.

h. Conclusions and Recommendations:

None.
