Dear Families,

ARE WE THERE YET?

As we draw close to the final days of Term 3, and in anticipation of a much needed break, we have much to celebrate at our wonderful school. Our students, staff and parents have invested tremendously this term and it goes without saying the returns have been overwhelmingly positive. With a number of sacramental celebrations, academic achievements (Tournament of Minds, Writing Competition Winners, Math Olympiad), P & F events (Grandparents’ & Father’s Day) and sporting highlights pitted throughout the full term, our students continue to shine and be afforded many rich experiences at St Joseph’s.

The children have been most responsive to eLearning opportunities through the introduction of coding skills, various educational applications and further exploration of the Google platform e.g. Screencastify. Enhancing their learning, our chromebooks remain an invaluable learning tool and in high demand daily across all grade levels.

The impact of our student wellbeing (Circle Time, Seasons, Peaceful Kids, Mindfulness & YCDI) and intervention programs (numeracy and literacy) continue to provide a level of social and emotional and academic support that often exceeds expectations, and perhaps does not always receive the recognition it deserves within a school setting. Our support and wellbeing modelling is exemplary.

ART SHOW AND BUSH DANCE

Clearly, the most significant highlight this term was the exceptional Art Show and Bush Dance on Friday evening. From stunning art pieces and performances, to bush dancing, we certainly showcased the creativity of our students in all facets of The Arts: Singing, Dancing, Performing and Visual. Our children were simply amazing!

The artwork displayed was beyond expectation, and I could not have been more proud of the manner in which the school was presented. Reflected in the running commentary from the many children throughout the week and the parents on the evening, the school looked amazing! The students were so very excited to see their work displayed throughout all aspects of the school and finally have the opportunity to ‘let their hair down and kick up their heels’ with the bush dance. One suspects that certain staff and parents enjoyed the dancing just as much as the children.

Finally, I sincerely thank and acknowledge our most creative staff who worked tirelessly preparing for this evening. The quality of our team has never been stronger and I could not have asked for more. I hope the highly impressive galleries reflected their investment and they can now look forward to a restful break after these efforts.

Once again, thank you to the P & F for organising the refreshments on the evening. The complimentary drink and food vans were certainly a hit and have provided ‘food for thought’ for future functions. We must now divert our attentions to the fete preparations in November.

Where possible and practical, we will leave the artwork displayed until the commencement of Term 4. In the meantime, all families are most welcome to visit the classrooms upstairs to view the pieces displayed throughout the corridor and walkways.

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE PROGRAM (BYOD) 2017

In consultation with the School Board and our technology provider, we will be introducing a 1:1 program in Year 4 in 2017. Chromebooks will be purchased and owned by the families for use at school and home over a 3 year period. These devices will therefore, be the responsibility of the families and students. In the coming days we will present some payment options for families and additional information in support of this new program. The feedback from all families was overwhelmingly positive and in support of this program. Early in Term 4, an information evening has been scheduled to address any feedback and provide a more comprehensive overview of the benefits of this educational pathway.

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL CURRICULUM TERM 4

In Term 4 we will focus on a personal safety unit. This will combine, ‘Child Safety Standard 7’ (empowerment of students) and ‘Cyber Safety’. Staff will deliver a version of the Daniel Morcombe program (recognise, respond, report) for the first 3 weeks, and Miss Guy (eLearning Leader) has planned a cyber safety set of lessons for staff to deliver from Week 4. Thanks Mrs Moore and Miss Guy for actively promoting these invaluable learning opportunities.

YEAR 4O TERM 4

It is with a great deal of excitement and anticipation that we look forward to Miss O’Dowd’s wedding in Term 4. Claire will take some combined personal and long service leave for period of approximately 4 weeks from 17th October. Mrs Wood, who has worked with children throughout the year, will work with the students during this time. We expect a very successful handover and transition for our students with no interruption to their learning program. Miss O’Dowd will prepare a comprehensive plan in consultation with Mrs White. We wish Claire and Hugh every success as they start to prepare the finer details for this very special day in October.

CONGRATULATIONS MOIRA!

Wonderful to acknowledge last week, Moira received official recognition for 20 years of service to Catholic Education. This year, Moira also completed further studies completing a Diploma in Office Management. We are blessed to have the best office staff in town!

SRC SURVEYS

If you were issued with an SRC School Survey, could you please return to the front office as soon as possible. Your feedback is always appreciated. Happy Week 10 and thanks again for your remarkable efforts with the Art Show and Bush dance, Simon Collis Principal

Dear Parents,

What an amazing night we had on Friday! Thank you all so much for coming along to help celebrate the achievements of our students. As Simon has said, our classroom teachers worked exceptionally hard to ensure all was ready for the evening and to help students prepare art pieces over two terms. Another congratulations must go to Mrs Chris, our Visual Arts Teacher; Miss Angie and Mrs Quinn, our music teachers, and Mrs Linke and Mrs Pepper for their work on Australian Book Week - particularly for the art work that Mrs Linke did with our students, inspired by the shortlisted books.

A final congratulations to our incredibly hard working Year 6 Art Captains, who have worked behind the scenes since Term 2, to help prepare for the Art Show. Many of you will be unaware that these leaders carried out a series of art lessons in each grade and produced work which was on display on Friday. They also worked tirelessly throughout last week on the finishing touches for the show, and helped to MC the evening. Well done girls and what an achievement! We are so proud of you!

Wishing you all a restful and relaxing holiday! Michelle Moore – Deputy Principal

NEXT FETE MEETING - Wednesday 14th

September

The next fete meeting will be held on Wednesday 14th September at 7.30pm in the staff room. Due to the class allocation for stalls/games/rides this year, we would really like to see 1 rep from each class come along to the meeting. If both reps can’t make it, can you please send through any updates you have before Wednesday evening. Thank you!

EXTERNAL FETE STALLS

We would like to advise all school families that bookings for our external fete stalls have commenced. The Fete committee has decided to just have stalls from businesses within the community this year. The cost for the external stalls will be $50 (money to go to the school). Thanks so much to Emma Buxton for volunteering to manage the external stalls – great news! If you are interested in having a stall at the fete this year, please contact Emma on [email protected]
