Community New Manchester High School was founded in 2011 and is the most recent high school built in Douglas County. It is located on Highway 92/166 in the southeast part of the county, one mile from the border of Fulton and Douglas Counties near Boundary Waters Park. Because New Manchester was established as the magnet school for fine arts in Douglas County, the school has ample resources for fine arts, including the largest and most modern theater in the county. Curriculum Classes at New Manchester are arranged on a 4 x 4 block schedule, with students completing four classes each semester. Class periods are approximately 90 minutes. Students may choose from a wide variety of classes, including advanced academics; Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE); and fine arts. Magnet New Manchester is home of the Fine Arts Magnet Education (FAME) program which offers concentrations in Dance, Drama, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, and Visual Art. Students must apply for the program in the fall of their 8th grade year. Part of the application process includes a live audition or the submission of art samples. The rigorous FAME program trains and prepares students for post-secondary or professional options. The Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education and Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company partner with the FAME program. Professional dancers and actors often visit the school to impart advice to students about pursuing a career in the arts. The InToneNation a cappella group, under the direction of Trey Giddens, has won numerous choral competitions in recent years.
