TITLE SEQUENCE.

SWEENEY TODD.

1st Frame.

The chimney’s and church spires set the scene as old London, as well as the rain, which also sets the moods through a technique of pathetic fallacy. The blood in the rain is a foreshadowing of the film, which ties in with the barbers pole, that helps set the environment.

This frame is where the sequence starts to introduce more gore, as the blood starts to fall onto the window. The directors name comes over the top of the chair which signifies one of the main features of the film.

2nd Frame.

The font would be white to stand out against the dark colours that dominate the film, and even the genre. The blood spilling from the picture hints that it is this characters death that starts the whole story.

It’s Johnny Depp’s name that appears on this slide because it is his character that is related to what is shown on the screen at the time. This is another foreshadowing of the story.

3rd Frame.

Here the barbers chair is shown to have beautiful detail, showing that Sweeney Todd did once care about his profession, but now, like his life, the chair is worn and decayed, soon to be overflowing with blood.

4th Frame.

5th Frame.The colours very dark and dismal to help the red blood stand out. The cogs represent the main part of the movie, which is the building of the chair showing that Sweeney Todd has made up his mind about how he will get his revenge. The main theme is the blood but it isn’t centered because it is making its way throughout the story.

6th Frame.Here the name of the film and the main character comes up in blood red, because it is Sweeney Todd who will be guilty for most of the blood. The demon barber of fleet street is added to the title because it’s a historical link as the film is based off of true events. The background is streaked and blurred because the title is made to appear as though it is falling down the dark tunnel were the dead bodies a thrown.

7th Frame.

Here the blood is turned into the meat which turns back into the blood. This is a very gruesome hint as to what the pie meat is actually made of. And the way the credits have travelled so far indicates that the pies are made below the barbe4rs room, were the dead bodies are dropped, which travels further into the sewers. Showing the unhygienic ways of old London.

8th Frame.The fire represents the dramatic death at the end and how the only warmth ever shown throughout the movie is actually deadly. The blood surrounding the pies hints at what they actually contain, and the fact that the oven is portrayed as such a confined space from the pies level reveals how trapped the victims were ever since they entered the shop.

9th Frame.

Here the titles have followed the blood and left the sewers, into the ocean were we see Sweeney Todd entering London. In a way it shows that the whole story will go around in a circle and Sweeney Todd will be will all the other blood that he spilt, flowing through the sewers and into the ocean.
