The Astrology of Manifestation and AbstractionNiklas Nihlen

1. The Astrology of Manifestation The planetary Logos works through the groups in His centres, and according to the centre under stimulation so will the groups concerned be affected. The action of the planetary Logos transfers into the egoic impulse that is felt as a pulsation, or access of energy, emanating from the central point. From the group centre therefore emanates an urge to renewed activity, and this spreads throughout the group lotus until the units who respond to that particular ray vibration occultly awaken. On a lower turn of the spiral this can be seen as the ashram, where the vibration of the master is contacting or stimulating certain disciples for a task. The Chiron epoch is reflective of what is mentioned above, and the stimulation is experienced as the need to enter upon the Quest of the Soul. One of the challenges with this epoch is the individual urge versus the group will. However, it may very well be right to leave one group to enter upon ones own way, which will later on lead to the finding of ones truer group. Discernment as to right decision can only be reached by finding and following ones innermost driving motive. To continue, it can be said that each point concerned responds by a primary contraction followed by an outgoing of expansive display of energy. Each Identity concerned proceeds to sound a word. The Sigma/Maat epoch is reflective of what is here mentioned. In response to the demand, there is the sounding of the appropriate Word and the apportioning of the karma for the specific cycle. This includes a true estimation of the time cycle required for accomplishment of the task--restoring the plan on earth. This sound then expands into a mantram and the solar angels vibrate in response. The formulation of the matram actually include devising a clear strategy for the accomplishment of the task. Therefore, the purpose, plan, programme, pattern and stage of precipitation are outlined. The directing solar angel in the Jupiter epoch uses this knowledge or these instructions to build the appropriate forms by arousing the permanent atoms within the field of the causal periphery. Thus subsequently the permanent atoms (Rex, Venus and Mercury epochs) are ready when the incarnating soul strikes the note (Vulcan epoch) that begins the appropriation of the vehicles. It is also true that the permanent atoms of the 3rd aspect relate to Rex, and the petals of the 2nd aspect relate to Venus and the central nucleus with its three petals relate to triadal Mercury, with the core jewel related to Vulcan. Let me also mention that from another point of view, the epochs of Chiron, Sigma/Maat and Jupiter reflect the Touches of Appropriation, Acquiescence and Enlightenment respectively. Then the following epochs of Rex, Venus and Mercury reflect the Lemurian, Atlantean and Aryan rootraces. This of course directly relates to the Shamballa Impacts taking place during these races. The lemurian impact being related to individualization, the atlantean impact being related to the assertion of the Black lodge (an inversion of the coming of the Lords of Flame in Lemuria and the Venus/Pluto connection). We then have the Aryan impact, having a sub-impact in 1825, suggestively another in 1930 (on February 18, 1930 when Pluto was discovered at the midpoint of the War and esoterically approaching our planet), another one in 1975, and the one upon us around the year 2000. The themes of the sub-impacts of the 20th century--destruction, purification and organization--seem to reflect the events around the greater root-race impacts. As the next epoch of Vulcan is reached, Sanat Kumara will sound the vibrating note. [TCF p.937] "From another point of view, we may be considered as studying the action of the solar Angel, or Lord, upon the lunar angels, and the process whereby the solar Lord imposes a certain rhythm and vibration upon different aspects of lower manifestation. [The wording used here is definitely suggestive of the planet Vulcan and thus of the Vulcan epoch, but also of Osiris and the Sun /Osiris epoch as both Vulcan and Osiris have the power to impress upon lower manifestation.] Esoterically, this is all hidden in the words of a very ancient writing, which says: "As the moon revolves, she reflects. As she reflects, she causes response in that which failed to radiate. These three, the Sun, the Moon, and the Mother, produce that which pursues a tiny cycle, and burns."[Here is mentioned the epochs of the Sun, Moon and Earth.] T he first step of the Ego towards producing a "shadow" is expressed in the words "The Ego sounds his note." [The Vulcan epoch] He utters his voice, [The Sun/Osiris epoch] and (as in the logoic process) the lesser "army of the voice" [The Moon/Hermes epoch] responds immediately to it. According to the tone and quality of the voice, [tone and quality of the Sun/Osiris or Moon/Hermes epoch] so is the nature of the responsive agents. According to the depth or height of the note, and according to its volume, [depth or height and volume of the Vulcan epoch] so is the status or grade of building deva which replies to the call. [tone, quality, depth or height of note and volume evoke response from the building deva of the Moon/Hermes epoch] This egoic note [The Vulcan epoch] produces, therefore, certain effects: It sweeps into activity devas who proceed to transmit the sound. They utter a word." [Then follows the building process where the different phases or stages overlap in an intricate manner. Overlap is one of the outstanding characteristics of Nature. Quantum Theory does not negate this--both perspectives are true. It seems very difficult to relate some of the building stages with the prenatal epochs in an actual manner. It is far easier to make the symbolic connection. In one sense the actual building process is just an approximation of the archetypal sequence as portrayed by the epochs. Anyway, each vehicle is built in seven stages--three major and four minor stages. I have adopted the conception, animation and birth stages in order to describe the three major stages. The theosophical doctrine recognizes the 'thirds' as important, hence the building stage where 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3 of the vehicles are ready are very important. The other system rather emphasizes the midway point instead. Again, both of course carry truth. The amount of 'time' taken for the building and appropriation of the different vehicles will vary according to ray and point in evolution etc. Anyway, I have tried to indicate one reasonable way to relate the epochs with the building stages-there are other ways of doing it too. Let me just mention the psychological perspective, where the seven building stagesconverted by Web2PDFConvert.com

are as follows: appropriation, aspiration, approach, animation, appearance, activity and ambition. These have a very accurate reflection in the post-conceptual epochs: Uranus, Isis, Pluto, Neptune, Morya, Mars and Saturn.] "It reaches the listening devas of the second grade who take up the word and proceed to elaborate it into what might be called a mantric phrase. The building process definitely begins in a sequential threefold manner. The [Page 938] mental body begins to co-ordinate in three stages. All the building stages overlap. When, for instance, the co-ordination of the mental body is in its second stage, the first stage of astral concretion begins. This is carried on for seven stages (three major and four minor) which overlap in an intricate fashion. [These three major stages of co-ordination of any vehicle can be called the stage of Conception, Animation and Birth] Again, when the second stage is reached, a vibration is produced which awakens response in etheric matter on the physical plane, and the builders of the etheric double commence their activity. Again the process is repeated. When the second stage of the work of these etheric devas is begun, conception takes place upon the physical plane. This is a very important point to be remembered, for it brings the entire process of human birth definitely into line with established karmic law. It shows the close connection between that which is subjective and that which is tangible and seen. The building of the physical body proceeds like that of the three stages during the prenatal period: a. The work of the building devas during the three and a half months prior to the realisation of life. [The realisation of life suggests the Neptune (animation) epoch occurring around four months into the pregnancy, therefore this period covers the Uranus (conception), Isis and Pluto epochs] This period sees the third stage of the building of the etheric body entered upon. b. The building work of the next three and a half months of the gestation period. [The Neptune (animation) and Morya epochs] c. The final process of concretion carried on through the remaining two months." [The Mars and Saturn epochs. Students will here find it interesting to trace out the correspondence in this method of producing evolutionary manifestation in a planetary scheme with its rounds and races, and in a solar system with its manvantaras and greater cycles. [Hence the very meaningful and significant correspondence and relation between the prenatal epochs and the law of cycles or periodicity and the schemes, rounds and races] 2. The Astrology of Abstraction In summing up this very cursory outline, [yes, it is very cursory!] the work of the etheric devas does not cease at the birth of the man, but is continued likewise in three stages, which find a close analogy in the life period of a solar system. [Following is an example of the ever-present process of creation, preservation and destruction or abstraction, or should we say the growth of spring, the maturity of summer, the decay of fall and disincarnating of winter] [TCF Page 939] First, their work is directed to the steady increase of the human physical vehicle, so that it may follow accurately the lines of growth of the two subtler bodies. This is carried on till maturity is reached. The next stage is that in which their work consists largely of repair work, and the preservation of the body during the years of full manhood so that it can measure up to the purpose of the subjective life. This purpose necessarily varies according to the stage of development of the man. Finally comes the stage when the work of building ceases. The vitality in the etheric body waxes dim, and the processes of destruction begin. The Ego begins to call in his forces. The "sound" becomes faint and dim; there is less and less volume for the transmitters to pass on, and the initial vibration gets fainter and fainter. The period of obscuration comes in. First the physical body waxes weak and useless; then the Ego withdraws from the centres, and functions for a few hours in the etheric double. This in turn is devitalised, and so the process is carried onconverted by Web2PDFConvert.com

till one by one the sheaths are discarded and the egoic "shadow" is dissipated. [Just as the Creative Hierarchies can be counted in both directions, so can the epochs. Just as some of the Creative Hierarchies have passed away and are out of incarnation, so some of the prenatal epochs reflect a former or coming process of restitution. It can be said that the Chiron epoch is a re-capitulation of the prenatal experience of the former incarnation. The epoch of Sigma/Maat then reflects the developed triple flower of the earlier system or incarnation. It governs the supply, maturation and attrition of the vehicles to be discarded eventually; the soul sounding the word of withdrawal. The epoch of Jupiter is related to the attracting and harvesting by the soul of the permanent atoms and mental unit into the causal body itself. In this respect, Jupiter represents the inclusiveness of the monadic heart centre--the causal periphery of the soul--just as it on a higher turn of the spiral represents the monadic auric egg, inclusive of the spiritual triad and the five planes of manifestation. In another way it represents the egoic lotus, inclusive of the tiers of petals and the jewel at the centre. Other epochs relate to the different parts. These two epochs of Sigma/Maat and Jupiter have to do with rendering unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's, and rendering unto God what is God's. This focuses into the pull of the soul and the pull of the earth, where the actual discarding of the vehicles then relate to the three remaining epochs. The fact that the petals unfold according to the ray of the monad, and that the epochs unfold and become activated in an individual manner, will suggest an interesting line of study to the esoteric astrologer. Maybe he will be able to ascertain the ray of the monad or soul, by means of diagnosing the unfoldment of the epochs. According to ray will be the pattern or sequence of unfoldment. A similar thing may be true when it comes to the three permanent atoms. These atoms do not always hold the same relative position as regards the centre of the lotus, but according to the stage of development so will be the position of the atoms, and so will be the apprehension of the inflowing force. In the earlier stages, the physical permanent atom is the first to receive the inflow and can be said to be at the apex position. Then the inflowing force contacts the astral permanent atom finally to reach the mental unit. The physical permanent atom is related to the epoch of Rex--the 'split' planet--and the withdrawal of the life force in the etheric double from the dense physical body is followed by the withdrawal of the life force from the etheric body, and its devitalisation. It thus brings completion to the process of restitution, which has a definite soul effect, and the soul responds such that the man can see the experience of the past incarnation spread before him like a map, recording a sense of timelessness. In EH p.491, the Tibetan say "As a result of the recognition of these experiences, the man isolates those three which were the three major conditioning factors in the life which has gone and which also hold the keys to his future incarnation which he will next initiate. All else is forgotten, and all the lesser experiences fade out of his memory, leaving nothing in his consciousness but what are esoterically called "the three seeds or germs of the future". These three seeds are in a peculiar manner related to the permanent physical and astral atoms, and thus produce the fivefold force which will create the forms later to appear." Therefore these three seeds relate to the trinity of epochs presently under consideration. The Devachan experience thus faces the man. If the major struggle for abstraction lies at this stage, it is a "Lemurian departure". The astral permanent atom is related to the epoch of Venus, and now follows the withdrawal of the life force in the kamic, astral or emotional form with its consequent disintegration. If the major struggle for abstraction lies at this stage, then it is "the death of an Atlantean". The mental unit is related to the epoch of Mercury, and next follows the withdrawal of the life force in the manasic or mental body with its consequent disintegration and centralization within the higher domains. T here is here a correspondence to that "endless Way of which Nirvana itself is but the open door", as the above mentioned trinity is related to the planetary triangle of the Earth (representing Rex), Venus and Mercury and the holiest three--Aquarius, Capricorn and Taurus. These in their turn are related to the archetype of the Pythagorean triangle. This triangle, with the sides of three, four and five, find its approximation in the timing and spacing of the epochs of conception, animation and birth, governed respectively by Uranus, Neptune and Saturn. Just as, the former process of restitution is reflected into or expressed through the stages of appropriation of the current life. In order better to understand the functioning of the planets and epochs in relation to Death, we must come to a clearer understanding of the Law of Attraction. This Law is the principle of coherency and the cause of integration, and it is also the medium through which "restitution" is brought about and by which the human soul is periodically reabsorbed into the overshadowing soul. This aspect of the Law of Attraction concern the highest expression of that Law, and is therefore related to the will aspect of deity, and the will aspect of the Monad. The Law of Disintegration (under Sigma/Maat) breaks up the forms and the Law of Attraction (under Jupiter) draws back to primal sources the material of those forms; "The descended radiating point of light ascends, responsive to the dimly heard recalling note, attracted to its emanating source." The astral humanity of today finds a meaningful correspondence between the three water signs and the three phases of the First aspect of the Law of Attraction: Restitution - Cancer; Elimination - Scorpio; Absorption - Pisces] Back

Fundamental Esoteric Astrology & the DecanatesNiklas Nihlen

This letter will address matters fundamental to Esoteric Astrology. Therefore, it will focus on the firm-ament or Ground itself and those matters that truly sub-stand this the Greatest of Sciences. It will provide a Key to the nature and origin of the Decanates, which themselves open doors to heavenly mansions. It is understandable that the Tibetan considered the Decanates at length in His Treatise.

In this day and age, no one really knows the source or derivation of the concept of decanates. Although they are part of ancient sources of Indian astrology etc., no one can explain how they were derived and in which way they were really used. I have come to the understanding that the decanates of a sign are focal points for extra-zodiacal influences. There are many constellations and stars other than those found in the zodiac--the apparent path of the Sun--yet, these extrazodiacal influences have not been readily accounted for. They are fused and blended by the zodiacal constellations, and find their way through the signs where they are focussed in the decanates. It can be stated that they represent different aspects of the specific constellation with which they have affinity. As a possible analogy can be mentioned the chakras of a human being. These chakras located in the lower vehicles are inlets into the physical framework from different levels and vehicles of the specific human being in question. The constellations and signs also have inlets related to different levels or aspects. This is reflected in the decanates and the rulers. According to development and rays, so do the chakras and hence also the planets change their interrelation and governing energies. As human beings and their interior dynamics change, so do the chakras (and thereby a human beings responsiveness to the different decanates). This makes quite explicit the relation of the decanates and the Science of Triangles. Now, in order to make more clear the place the decanates have in the scheme of things, let me give you two fundamental quotes of relevance here. EA p. 621-22: "In the understanding of the significance of the distinction between constellations as galaxies of stars, and signs as concentrated influences will come fresh light upon the science of astrology. This is fundamentally connected with the difference between the relation of a ray energy to the triangle of constellations and the human relation. More I may not say but this will give a hint to the intuitive astrologer." To this can be added the following from EA p. 28-29: " 1. Those coming from certain great constellations which are to be found active in relation to our solar system and which, from the most ancient days, have always been related in myth and legend to our system. To these constellations, ours is related in a peculiar way.

2. Those coming from the twelve zodiacal constellations. These are recognised as having a definite effect upon our system and our planetary life.

3. Those coming from the planets found within the periphery of the Sun's sphere of influence. From a certain point of view, one can generalise largely and say that these are the correspondences in the solar system to the three great centres of force which produce and control manifestation and evolutionary progress in the human being:

1. The great exterior, yet controlling, constellations are analogous to that centre of force which we call the Monad and to its universal will-to-power which is distinctive of the first divine aspect. 2. The twelve constellations might be regarded as embodying the soul aspect and, for the present, their effect upon the individual must be regarded and should be studied in terms of consciousness and of the development of the life of the soul. This is in essence the will-to-love. 3. The planets, twelve in number (seven sacred planets and five non-sacred), are effective (using the word in a technical sense) in relation to the external life, environment and circumstances of the individual. Their force contacts should be interpreted largely in terms of the human personality, the third divine aspect. They thus exemplify the will-toknow."

I will suggest distinctions between the major fundamental sidereal constellations, the minor sidereal constellations, the signs and the decanates. Let me try to make this clear to you. The following relations should be viewed according to the hourglass or diamond formations as suggested in the chapter on Cosmic Energies and Transformation (around page 609 in E.A):

TRANSCENDING CAUSE -- MONAD-- ONE ABOUT WHOM NAUGHT MAY BE SAID -- SIDEREAL ZODIACAL CONSTELLATION ==>> ==>> TRANSMITTING TRIANGLE --TRIAD-- GREAT BEAR, PLEIADES AND SIRIUS -- EXTRA-ZODIACAL TRIPLICITY OF SIDEREAL CONSTELLATIONS ==>> TRANSFORMING FOCI -- SOUL -- SEVEN SOLAR SYSTEMS OF WHICH OURS IS ONE -- TROPICAL ZODIACAL SIGN ==>> ==>> TRANSFIGURING CENTER -- PERSONA -- SUN / THREE SYNTHESIZING PLANETS -- DECANATES OF TROPICAL SIGN AND THE RULING PLANETS ==>> etc. into the chakras.

So, the true basis of the decanates is found in the extra-zodiacal constellations, which minor/subsidiary constellations stand to the major constellations, as the decanates stand to the tropical signs. The planetary rulers of the decanates, can actually be considered as being the rulers of the minor constellations. The planetary rulers of the decanates on the Wheel of Form (clockwise) are the exoteric rulers of the respective constellations. The planetary rulers of the decanates on the Wheel of Consciousness (anti-clockwise) are the esoteric rulers of the respective constellations.

Below you will find a list that relate the Decanates, the Constellations and the Planetary Rulers. Some editing and amplifications have been made to the information given on the planetary rulers by the Tibetan. However, there may still be some ambiguities and even erroneous assignments, but I believe most to be in line with good reasoning and Ancient Astrology, as it was anchored by the Hierarchy in old Atlantean days.

Sidereal and TropicalNiklas Nihlen Sharing some thoughts (far from complete) on this matter that I wrote in relation to another group. T h e following question was posed-Question: I have been perplexing over the question of the use of the tropical over the sidereal zodiac in casting astrology charts. In Solar Fire there is a Djwhal Khul setting under sidereal that is approximately 4 degrees different than the Fagan-Allen setting. I can grasp the use of the tropical zodiac for the unevolved person but for a disciple or initiate would not the sidereal zodiac be more appropriate and why the 4 degrees difference in the two above mentioned sidereal systems? NN: Here follow some thoughts on the matter; It is a fact that the constellations in the zodiacal belt are not of equal length or size, and sometimes they even overlap. This is the case with the constellations Pisces and Aquarius for example. Therefore, just by looking at the heavens, it is not so easy to say exactly where one constellation begin and another one end. In the spirit of equality, and to simplify things all constellations are instead given an equal 30 degrees making a total of 360 degrees of the circle. This is fine, but then comes the next question; where does this circle of 12 equals have its beginning? Maybe zero degrees Aries--but where is zero degrees Aries found in the heavens? T his is where the different sidereal zodiacs differ. They all have more or less different beginning points, or anchoring points in the heavens. Certain stars may indicate the beginning points, but these stars are also in dispute, hence the different beginning-points. T he Tibetan gave the year 2117 as year of the beginning of the Aquarian Age, and based upon this year can be calculated a sidereal zodiac, because at that time (by most definitions) the vernal equinox will be 30 degrees off from beginning of Pisces. It is an assumption that when he gave the year 2117, he meant that the vernal equinox would be displaced by 30 degrees from its archetypal position at zero degrees Aries on the anti-clockwise wheel, and zero degrees Pisces on the clockwise wheel. S o the sidereal zodiac can in a way be considered as factual, because there is no great displacement of planetary positions with respect to the constellations in the background. The planets are usually seen against the backdrop of theconverted by Web2PDFConvert.com

constellation that they are said to 'be in'. But the problem is to know where the circle of constellations begin. T he tropical zodiac does not have the same problem. We know exactly where it begins, although its beginning-point is moving approximately 1 degree every 72 years in relation to the background stars. We still know exactly where it is in relation to the background stars and constellations. The different sidereal zodiacs are measured with respect to the tropical zodiac and it's beginning-point--the vernal point. The difference or displacement between the two is called the ayanamsha. Most ayanamshas these days are around 25 degrees, whereas DK's ayanamsha is around 28 degrees. You can calculate this exactly in Solar Fire, by noting the difference when using the different ayanamshas. Contrasting the two zodiacs: Generally, the sidereal zodiac is more lunar, and along the hard-line rays; 1, 3, 5, 7. The tropical zodiac is more solar, and related to the soft-line rays; 2, 4, 6. It is no surprise that a country like India, influenced by Rays 1 and 3 and signs (or should I say constellations) Capricorn and Aries is so much involved with the sidereal zodiac. It is a 'lunar' nation, and hence maybe it's inhabitants will thereby respond more to the sidereal zodiacs than the tropical one, as they are envoloped by that thought-form. If it's a Moon chain Ego, then maybe the sidereal will have greater influence as well. We also have to consider the races and sub-races in the same manner as we do with nations and maybe continents. The individual ray make-up may have to be considered too. This may be one of the reasons why DK tells us to determine the ray before interpreting the chart. Also the focal centre of the chakras for a certain incarnation may also have to be taken into consideration. The two different zodiacs are always operative to some extent, and always have an influence, its just a question of determining the ratio and percentage of influence. Listing factors that may be involved in determining the influences of the two zodiacs: Evolutionary status. Mechanism of response. Race, sub-race, nation and continent. Where individualisation occurred. Individual ray make-up. Focal centre. Gender. We must understand that besides considering the different zodiacs, we find certain techniques or systems applied with the zodiacs. These systems in themselves may be more material or more subjective in their orientation. So it's not cut and dry, but a mix depending on matters applied with the zodiacs. But again, in general, I would say that sidereal is more form oriented; tropical more responsive to soul; whereas esoteric astrology more definitely unfold the inner life and bring in the remoter possibilities. Only as a man re-orients himself and begins to travel back to his source is it possible for esoteric astrology to become more influential than the other systems. W h y I mention esoteric astrology here, is because I believe that it is inclusive of both perspectives and approaches of the Tropical and Sidereal zodiacs. Esoteric astrology contains both, yet transcends the limitations of both. Triangulation is achieved, and the polar opposites are being resolved. After the Path of Discipleship the sidereal zodiac, esoterically applied, will begin to supersede the influences of the tropical zodiac. You might say that, the sidereal zodiacs are stronger in the 1st and 3rd decanates of form and spirit, whereas tropical govern the 2nd or middle decanate. Maybe I can express the influences as follows: 1st decanate of form control and personality integration - Tropical rise, Sidereal/Houses culminate, Sidereal/Esoteric anticulminate. 2nd decanate of Discipleship - Tropical culminates, Sidereal/Houses set, Sidereal/Esoteric rise. 3rd decanate of Initiate - Tropical set, Sidereal/Houses anti-culminate, Sidereal/Esoteric culminate. As we take the first Sirian initiation (our third initiation), our scope becomes widened and more planetary and we can begin to respond to the stars and constellations in a new and more direct manner. At the third initiation we start understanding and accessing the first aspect in a new and more direct way. We are solarized as it were--we have seen the culmination of the tropical zodiac which is now approaching the western horizon. The tropical zodiac have served its purpose, but is now beginning to be a limitation, just like the causal body have to be destroyed, because it has become a limitation. Then there is of course the question of Heliocentricity. The Heliocentric perspective is suited for the astrology that deals with inter-solar systemic astrology. That astrology which seeks to find out what is going on between our solar system and other solar systems, especially within the Sirian System of Suns. It deals more with connections to, and within, organisations and organisms, as these are composed of many parts or entities, put together as one whole. How ones individual gifts can assist the whole, and how that whole impress the individual part with something greater and farreaching, offering transcendence of the individual ring-pass-not. Back
