OFFICIAL NOTICE ANNUAL MEETING COLUMBUS CLUB OF ARLINGTON, INC.

JANUARY 5, 2017

Pursuant to the by-laws of the Corporation, Article II,

Section 4, this serves as notice to the membership of the

annual meeting of the Corporation, which will be held on

January 5, 2017 immediately following the 7:30 p.m. meeting

of Edward Douglass White Council Meeting. Please bring

your membership card or proof of dues payment for 2107.

An election will be held to fill five vacancies on the

Corporation Board of Directors caused by expiration of

that many two-year terms.

The Nominating Committee reports that the following

members have consented to be candidates for election:

This December, I nominate George Degnon as Knight

of the Month.

George is involved with so many things from St. Vincent

De Paul to Cursillo and many other Diocesan and National

efforts and organizations. You couldn’t think of a better

example of a true Catholic Gentleman, and Man of Faith.

George and his wife Marge also enjoy sailing their boat

and are often seen up at the Council Home for dinner.

With honor, the Council will make a donation in George’s

name to the St. Vincent De Paul Society of Arlington.

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

James and his wife Susan are well known at the Council

Home. James served as EDW’s Grand Knight in 2006-07.

James is an Optometrist in Annandale. James’ brother Jeff

and his wife Lynn also have been known to come up to the

Council home. Coincidentally, James and Jeff share the same

birthday. James and Jeff’s brother Tim served many years on

the Columbus Club Board. Together the Walthall brothers

form The Flying Cows of Ventry, an Irish style band that has

played at EDW many times.

Please join me in congratulating my friends, The Walthall’s,

as the December Family of the Month. A donation to St.

James Church will be made in their name.

GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT As 2016 draws to a close, I would like to reflect on this past year at EDW and give thanks for a great 2016.

From a simple idea - how can we help with the Christians in need and who are being displaced because ofwar? We sold olivewood crosses and raised over $12,000 for refugees from the war torn Middle East. Our Supreme Knight Carl Anderson mentioned our Council in his address at the Supreme Convention in Toronto. It was a very proud moment for our council.

We have, for the 32nd year, provided Thanksgiving for many people who would have not had a meal or a place to go for Thanksgiving day.

Thanksgiving is an “All Hands” event. Thanks to all who participated this year. This past year, our Council Home, pool and grounds and facilities were shared by many

members and guests. We are fortunate to have what we have here at EDW. I hope you take a minute to appreciate that we are lucky to have the facilities and grounds at EDW.

Our Council is working well. We are taking forward steps to keep our Council active and vibrant. Our Columbus Club Board is also working well together and is “firing on all cylinders”.

On behalf of all our members, I want to thank everyone who makes EDW the best and most unique Council in the entire Knights of Columbus. Thank you to the Officers of our Council. Thank you to all the Past Grand Knights and Officers who have provide guidance and support. Thank you to all the committee chairmen who give their time and effort to our Council, and represent us on a State and National level. Also, thank you to our Ceremonial Team, ”The Seven Saints”

Thanks to the Columbus Club Board for the work you are doing to make EDW a fun, happy, safe, and inclusive place for all our members.

I am proud of the work we are doing on the Council and in the Club. Thanks to all who have stepped up to be leaders in our Council and Club. It is not easy to stand up in front of your peers and ask for their votes. I appreciate all who do.

Thank you to all our Columbus Club Employees, the people in the office, the folks who cook and clean and set up, the bartenders at the Council Home, the staff who work in the Deep End and Snack Bar, the Camp Counselors who make EDW a fun and safe place for our Summer Camp. Also thanks to the people who run our pools and keep us safe as well.

Thank you to the Volunteers who selflessly give their time to help our Council and Club. Thank you to the Red Coats, the guys who write, edit, stuff envelopes and mail the Knight Life, the Volunteers who cook and serve Family Breakfast every month. Thank you who cook and serve the BBQ and pour beer for KOVAR at the summer picnics. Thank you to all who cooked Jambalaya and to everyone who came up and donated to our friends in Louisiana when they were flooded. Thanks to all who volunteer for Honor Flight and those who make our Car Show happen. Thanks to the people who organize, run and attend events at EDW, The summer BBQ’s and Masses, our memorial Mass in November, the Nationals game, the Easter Egg Hunt, the kids and adult Halloween parties, Breakfast with Santa and New Years Eve. Thank you to the Knights who answer the call in our Parishes too.

Thanks to the people who cut and care for our lawns and grounds, and the folks who plow and shovel the snow. Thank you to the organizations with our Council, the Fish Club, the Ladies U-Knighted, the retirees, the tennis players, the Bridge players, the golfers for your support and commitment to making EDW fun for our members and their families. Thanks to the Holy Mackerels for your great season too!

Thank you to our Chaplain Fr. Joe and to all the Priests, Deacons and Religious who serve our Parishes and take care of our spiritual needs. Thanks to our Knights of Columbus Insurance Field Agents who help us with our financial planning.

And thank you for being a Knight, and a member of The Edward Douglass White Council. I hope you are as proud of EDW as I am and are committed to making 2017 be even better.

having fun. That’s what we like to do here at LUK – have fun!!!

Speaking of fun... I hope you found time to stop by the 13th

Annual Halloween Party. The Old Council Home was decorated

spectacularly andthe costumes, as always, were fantastic. Everyone

had a blast mingling with old friends, checking out costumes, and

dancing to the

Columbus Club for organizing the movement of decorations and

wall hangings and donating food and prizes. As I always say, many

hands make light work. Once again, we proved that LUK, the EDW

K of C, and the Columbus Club make a great team.

Thanks to everyone that donated a turkey or helped with the

Annual Thanksgiving event. Special thanks to Marijo and Thom

Galvin, who pour their heart and soul into organizing this

wonderful event.

Save the Date! LUK is having their annual Christmas Tree

Decorating event on Saturday, November 26 beginning at 7:00

p.m. As always, we are having a “pot luck” get together to kick

off the Christmas season. This is a family event, so please bring

your children to help with the decorations. Please bring a

Christmas ornament to spruce up the tree and a snack to share.

Please keep an eye out for your notice in your mailbox and remember to pay promptly since we are assessed for all members...regardless whether dues are paid or not.For 2017, REGULAR member dues will be $139; HONORARY member dues will be $90; and HONORARY LIFE member dues will be $60 (Columbus Club dues only).

We accept credit card payments (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) for dues on our website. Please understand that credit card transactions cost money to process and that we need to add a small

NEW YEAR’S EVE AT EDW Early December! (or close to it when you read this). A busy

month of shopping, entertainment and religious ceremonies. Take

time to invite good friends to join you for a special evening of

dining, music and dancing at EDW’s annual New Year’s Eve Gala.

The evening begins at 6:30pm with an open-bar and hors

d’oeuvres social hour. Mixed drinks (liquor) available gratis

during this one hour only; BYOL thereafter. Dinner served at

7:30 pm with entrée choices of beef tenderloin, chicken marsala

or broiled salmon; vegetarian or vegan meals also available upon

request at time of reservation. The Jim Bowie Band will offer

their wide range of dance music promptly at 9pm and will play

until 12:30AM. There’ll be a drawing for door prizes during

band intermission. A continental breakfast will be provided just

before midnight.

Ticket cost for this full evening of food, drink, dance and

entertainment will be the same as last year: $110. per couple; $55. per

single. Tickets are available in our Columbus Club office during

regular business hours; M-F 8am to 4:30pm. Call the CC office, 703-

536-9656, ext. 310, to order your tickets providing credit card

information. Tickets will be placed in envelopes for pick up on New

Year’s Eve, unless you opt to pick them up sooner. Ticket cost

includes beer, wine, and soda all evening (BYOL after initial social
