Advertise With Arnada

Your Arnada neighbors like living in our urban neighbor-hood and prefer to buy goods and services locally. The monthly Arnada Neighborhood Association newsletter in-cludes an advertising supplement, with ad revenues going to events and projects that better our neighborhood. We distribute 700 paper and electronic copies to households and businesses in the neighborhood and surrounding area. Publication usually occurs the weekend prior to the 2nd Thursday of each month.

The base rate for an approximate 2 x 4 space is $30, with bigger spaces based on that rate. Ad submissions can be either a pdf or jpeg file, or you can type what you want to say in an e-mail and we’ll work with you to create an ad. Send submissions and inquiries to: [email protected]

Advertising is printed by the neighborhood association and attached to the city-printed newsletter before distribu-tion.

Kickball is

Happening

The Aranda Armada’s first official game happened on June 6th . Thanks to the 11 Arnada neighbors and 2 Arnada spectors (yes, we had fans watch us play) that turned out. We combatted the Lincoln Continentals and even though we lost 11 - 1, we were satisfied that we did not get skunked. We all had a great time. Our next match up is 7pm, July 11th against the Carter Park Kickers at Hough’s John Ball park. More team members are always welcomed. Email Armada team captain Todd at [email protected] if interested.

The Burnt Bridge Creek Greenway multi modal path cuts just north of the Kiggins bowl football stadium off of Main Street? That means you can ride there from your house. It’s only minutes away by bike and not much longer if hiking. It’s a great way to spend a day exercis-ing and recreating with your family, significant other or friends. A supurb chance to get an extra dose of nature without having to drive anywhere. There are two good ways to get to the trail without dealing with a ton of car traffic - Bike up F street all the way to 39th. Follow F Street past 39th street to 40th street. Take 40th to the eastside of Main street. Follow the sidewalk past the Kiggins Bowl parking lot and, volia, you’ll be at the trail. From there you can either go west towards Vancouver Lake or east through Leverich Park to Bagely Park. The other travel option is to take Washington avenue north all the way to 45th street. Take a right on 45th to Main atreet. There’s a cross walk at 45th and Main that takes you across Main to the beginning of the path

Ok, this month was a setback. There were significant poop incidents in Arnada ParkPlease, please, please pick up after your pet in Arnada Park. We had an incidient when preparing for a

recent kickball game where the groundskeepers found ALOT of remnants from pets. Please be consider-ate of the fact that humans also use this part of the park and scoop up your dog’s poop.

It’s Summer Time. Go out there and recreate! Do you know we have a pretty darn good bike/hiking path that’s within an earshot of our neighborhood?

VANCOUVER POLICE ANNOUNCES NEW BICYCLE THEFT PREVENTION PROGRAM AND PARTNERSHIP

The Vancouver Police Department has partnered with Bad Monkey Bikes (1717 Broadway)and Bike Clark County to decrease the theft of stolen bikes and the number of bicycles recovered without identifiable owners.

“Monkey Shield” is a program where bicycle owners can register their bicycles with Bad Monkey Bikes for free. Registration includes a theft resistant sticker. This sticker will let police know that an owner’s contact information is on file.

If police locate a bicycle they suspect is stolen, they can call Bad Monkey Bikes and return it to the owner. If a participant’s bicycle is lost or stolen, the victim can contact the shop to obtain their bicycle information, including serial number, to make a report to the police.

The “Monkey Shield” program starts tomorrow at 1717 Broadway at 1:00 PM. “Bike Clark County”, a recent victim of several stolen bicycles, is going to register all of their bicycles at Bad Monkey Bikes.

Bike Clark County is a non-profit bicycle advocacy organization. Contact Info: Cpl. Drue Russell Vancouver Police Dept. 360-772-1492 [email protected]

Creating and Maintaining a Bird-Friendly Habitat

Saturday, July 13, 2013; 10 a.m. to noon

Want to bring more hummingbirds, chickadees, goldfinches, flickers and other winged wildlife into your garden? Join Deborah Kapral of the Backyard Bird Shop in an outdoors workshop at the Pacific Park Natural Garden demonstration site. Deborah will demonstrate different types of feeders and bird seeds and identify the specific birds attracted to each. The workshop will also include tips on creating a wildlife friendly yard for each season in the garden. Each partici-pant will receive seeds to take home. After the talk we will do a little maintenance in the demonstration gardens. There will be time to ask questions, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist. Dress appropriately for the weather. No tools are necessary, but you may want your own gloves if you use them. Bring drinking water. This workshop is put on by WSU Clark County Master Gardeners in conjunction with Clark County Environmental Services. Free with one hour service in the demo garden. Pre-registration required at http://bpt.me/370648
