Son of Italian immigrants; born in South Park,
graduated from HHS 1942. Grew up on father's 9-acre
truck farm; worked since 12 years old.

Angelo Vacca-farm of 13 acres may be lost due to

Gottlieb van Boorien-Came from Germany 1880;
homesteaded land which became Lake Burien;
followed by other families who homesteaded; town
named Burien for him. As he grew older, tired of hard
work, rented property and he and wife moved back to
Seattle, died within a year of each other
George Vanderveer-Defender of the underdog;
national acclaim defending International Workers of
the World (I.W.W.) called Wobblies. Practice grew;
served as attorney for Teamster's Union and Dave
Beck's personal attorney; died in 1942 after car
accident. "never rejected from any consideration
personal to himself, the cause of the poor, the
defenseless, the oppressed."
George Vandereer-One of Burien's best known
attorneys Of attorneys who moved to area because
Lake Burien had become magnet for prosperous
businessmen, he probably best known nationally as
well as locally. Shaped later rights and privileges of
most every person in country.
Sam Ward, Jr-survived 31-hour ordeal in Puget Sound
after dinghy capsized off 3-Tree Point and was washed
ashore at Alki Beach 10/1930.
Billie Lee Westcott-9-year old baton mistress, popped
out of Santa's sack to entertain crowd of 52,000 at UW
football finale; learned skill at Highline High School
games.
Fred White-In early 1920's cleared land for
construction of Highline High School; "took horses,
cables and lots of dynamite; shares memories of event
and other times; football days, has knife-sharpening
shop above Des Moines Rd near S. 146th, wife's early
death, etc.
George Wilcox-Arrived 1898 before Burien was still
Sunnydale, with 3 grown sons George, William Wayne
and Frank and their children. After half century, Lois
Taylor, daughter of George Wilcox 2nd, and Mrs. Oro
Wilcox began tracing down relatives; found most lived
in South End; found 232. Reunion 1965 held at
Manhattan Community Center
Elizabeth Williams-1989 Received from Governor
Booth Gardner the Governor's Award for Outstanding
Volunteer Service, to recognize and thank volunteers
who have made significant contributions to quality of
life in Washington.
Casper Winter-Moved to Five Corners (Burien) winter
of 1929-30; stories of experiences there with wife and
daughter, garden, animals, timber.
Ivan Yeake-97-year old Normandy Park resident; 75
years in the Elks, honored by Washington State Elks
1997; served in WWI; family moved to Burien 1934;
Family made a living raising foxes; After WWII, he
started working in real estate business; started Yeakel
Realty with son Bob; developed many of city's
commercial buildings.
