Dear Parents, Guardians, Community Members, Staff and Students,

Last Wednesday we had the community Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea event in the Library. It was a wonderful event, organised by Mrs Christine Willis, Mrs Liz Bahar and Mrs Judith Newton. I would like to thank them for their contributions as well as the staff who prepared a vast array of culinary delights. Thank you to the community members who supported this event.

It has been a busy week as on Thursday, the Early Childhood Team undertook National Quality Standards Verification by the Department of Education. This was led by Mrs Debra Walker and Mrs Samantha Palmer. The team looked at seven quality areas and reviews these in order to plan for the future for improvement. The seven areas are Educational program and practice, Children’s health and safety, Physical environment, Staffing arrangements, Relationships with children, Partnerships with families and communities and Leadership and Service management. The Department representatives were very impressed with our work especially Deb and Sam’s leadership in this area; congratulations ladies. They

were also pleased with the progress that has been made this year in the area of leadership and service management.

I should note that our teachers plan, teach and assess together via our Phase of Learning Teams and our Specialist Teacher Team. Our teams are led by teachers who applied via an Expression of Interest and each Leadership Team member is aligned to a team. Here is a list:

These teams also work across the Leeming Cell where we, the staff, work with Leeming and Banksia Park Primary Schools as well as Leeming SHS staff on teaching, learning and assessment programmes. This week we will be meeting across the schools to discuss digital technologies work. Speaking of which, the Information Communication Technology Committee (ICT) have been investigating upgrading our hardware and hope to have new hardware by Term 3.

Thank you to all the parents and families who have been supporting the P&C’s fundraising, including the Entertainment Books and most recently the Lapathon- now that was a fun event!

THANK YOU WEST LEEMING

Our special morning tea on Wednesday, held as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council of WA, was a huge success! THANK YOU to all the staff, parents, families and friends of WLPS who supported our cause by giving so generously.

Our raffle was especially successful, and in large part, because of the many donations we received. A very special THANK YOU to the following people and businesses for their generous donations:

You can still MAKE A DONATION online at: http://wa.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/LBahar until Friday, June 2 2017.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible. We have raised an amazing $1100 so far! All money raised at the morning tea will help the Cancer Council continue its research, education and patient support services to help all those affected by cancer.
