Respite Transport Assistance
I would like to remind our community that transport assistance is
available for medical appointments and specialist access,
however our capacity to deliver this is limited due to the minimal funding we receive for
this area. We ask that family members, friends and those that have capacity to support
those in need are approached in the first instance. We need to work together as a
community to ensure this valuable service is able to prioritize those with genuine need. I
also ask that the decisions of my staff with regard to priority of access be respected.
Decisions are made in accordance with our access to services policy. Information is also
provided in our service user handbook. Please speak to our Community Services or
administration staff if further information is required.
Access to G.P appointments
Please be patient with us as we work through the shortage of G.P appointments at
present. We are working with our partners to address this and ensure improved access to
services in the future. If you have health concerns please consult with our nursing staff
who can assess your care needs and arrange priority access

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month
June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, an initiative to raise public awareness of a disease
that claims the lives of 80 Australians every week.
Bowel Cancer Awareness Month has a positive message saving lives through early detection
as bowel cancer is one of the most treatable types of cancer if found early.
Planned Activity Group Bus loaded and our third attempt we
made it to Kiss and Run Open Range
Eggs. We met with Caroline Kissel,
who explained the workings of a hen
& egg farm, an work that goes into
sorting the eggs into the right size,
colour, weight to be cleaned and
ready for marketing and delivery. We
all walked around with the hens in
their free range paddock. The hens
pecked at our legs and walked
around with us while we checked out
the shed the eggs are collected from
and where they roost at night. We
had a great day after having lunch
in Hamilton on our way home.
We headed off on a tour of 2 school
sites out Telangatuk area after a nice
lunch at the Centre. We enjoyed
afternoon tea by an open fire in
Robyn’s Garden. Special thanks to
Laurel for sharing all her research and
paper work she has collected on the
schools of the area and the growth
of the Consolidated School over the
years before the school closed and
relocated to the Harrow Road site.
This was at great history lesson and
we plan to visit more old school sites
in the area.
The Quiz and Craft afternoon kept
our hands and minds very busy; The
craft project “The One Million Stars to
End Violence” had the group
weaving a star with ribbon supplied
by the Hamilton Library. The stars will
be sent to Melbourne and put on
display.
For the last event for the month we
head to Pigeon Ponds to support the
Cuppa for Cancer fundraiser, lots of
plants for sale and we will enjoy a
cuppa with lots to eat.

This month at the
Balmoral Early
Learning Centre With Keira starting maternity leave, Lana has taken over her role
until Keira’s return. Congratulations to Keira and Matt on their
beautiful baby – Thomas Matthew! We cannot wait until you
can bring him in for show and tell.
In May, we focused much of our time on creating special gifts
for Mother’s Day. We worked hard at creating cards with plenty
of glitter (because every Mum loves a little glitter). We also
made ANZAC biscuits at the request of the children, as they
decided that their mums would love them for breakfast on
Mother’s Day.
We learnt how to make the colour orange and had fun
experimenting with colour mixing. The children now understand
how the primary colours red and yellow create orange. The
children used these three colours to create collages using fine
motor skills such as cutting, tearing, gluing and sticking.
We also used natural resources to create Autumn inspired
artworks, further inspired from our new knowledge of the colour
orange. The children enjoyed raking up the falling leaves to
create beautiful art works such as sun catcher and collaborative
collages.
We also picked our tomatoes from the garden and created
homemade pasta to produce a very tasty dish. The children
learnt to measure ingredients, knead the dough, laminate the
pasta and crush the tomatoes. They also learnt personal
hygiene skills and turn taking.
