FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to Week 8.
It’s hard to believe we are heading into the final 3
weeks of term. Is it just me or has this term flown by?
This Wednesday night, Ms Yeend and I are headed to
the Aboriginal Pathways Award night at Maitland
Grossman High School. The Pathways Awards are
organised by the AECG to recognise our Aboriginal
students who are achieving great things in their
schools. Congratulations to Janae Thompson and
Estella Walla who will be receiving awards on the
night.
This Wednesday night at the disco, I am asking 5
minutes of your time to give us your thoughts on PBL.
We are currently in the process of reviewing our PBL
practices (bights, bright stars, assembly awards,
classroom behaviour charts and STAR student
badge) and would really appreciate your input in
order to make changes to improve our current
behaviour and rewards system.
Next week we will be having a Playground Lockdown
Drill. As part of our WHS policies, we must complete
one at least once a year. It is important that we
practice our lockdown and evacuation drills to
ensure that if there was a real emergency situation,
both staff and students would know what to do.

Bottle Lids
Thank you to everyone that has brought in plastic
lids to help the great program Lids4Kids who are
able to turn bottle lids into prosthetic hands for kids.
Assembly
Weekly assembly will be held on Thursday afternoons
from 2.30pm for Weeks 8 and 10 this term.
Year 6 Lawn Bowls
This Week, Year 6 students will begin their 3 week
Lawn Bowls program at Hexham Bowling Club. A Huge
thank you to the parents whom have volunteered to
drive for this program. Without you, we would not be
able to participate in this tradition. Students MUST
wear sports shoes and a school hat as we will be in
the sun. They may also take a drink bottle with them.
STAGE 3 CANBERRA EXCURSION
Just a friendly reminder that final payments for Stage
3 Canberra excursion are due this Friday (13th
September, 2019). Due to high demand of programs
at travel time, to secure numbers, all payments,
medical forms, dietary forms and initial permission
must be finialised this Friday 13th September, 2019.
Kindergarten Excursion- 24/9/19
Our trip to Kaysadale farm will allow us to explore a
real life environment that cares for living things.
As part of our 'Living Things' Science unit, students
are asked to think about the needs of familiar pets
such as dogs and puppies. Students explore how the
environment that animals live in, help them to be
happy and healthy. In Geography, students are
learning about the world around them. They will look
at the way the farm is set up for a special purpose and
identify key features of the farm that make it special.
We are looking forward to exploring this special place
where Gypsy came from.
Please return permission notes and money to the
office by Friday 20/9/19.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Last week we focused on what bullying is and what it
might look like. This week we are looking at what
being a bystander is and what it means for us and for
the person that is being hurt (physically or
emotionally). It is important that students understand
that they have the power to make a difference
through their actions and not to stand by and let
something negative happen.
Students are continuing to earn classroom and
playground brights through positive behaviours
demonstrating Respect, Responsibility and Personal
Best.

Determination Launch
The Determination Launch was a great success. Students
were challenged to persist, try new strategies, seek advice
and implement the suggestions given. Through Determina-
tion students achieved things they never thought possible.
We will now continue our Determination journey at school.
Just as bodies can become
fitter,
so too can minds.
Learning how to learn will prepare the children for the future,
equipping them to become motivated and enthusiastic life-
long learners.
Our learning disposition focus is
Determination
We are learning to be ready, willing and able to learn and sustain our concentration.
We are learning to be resilient, manage dis-tractions, absorb information and preserve.
