Welcome back and Happy New Year!!
All the children and staff have been excited to
return back to school. Already we have had
robots in school, World War II day, designed
sea creatures for the Abyss which is now used
as class display for children to add work to,
and a trip to the Birmingham Hippodrome with
parents and children. Please keep checking
our website for more exciting updates
happening in school.
We have also had some changes since
Christmas. Four new members of staff have
started, Mr Mills in Year 5, Miss Ritchie in Year
4, Mrs McGregor has joined us as a second
Vice Principal with responsibility for behaviour
and safeguarding, and Mrs Dhesi as our new
Safeguarding Officer.
You will also notice that we have updated our
Reception area ‘with a lick of paint’, plus, we
have had a brand new website - address is
below.
Mrs Mahoney, Principal
Our Christmas Carol Service at St
Francis of Assisi was lovely, Church
was filled with Christmas spirit with
some outstanding reading from Year
4, beautiful singing, performances by
Violins and Brass players
and the school choir. A
wonderful way to finish
the Autumn term.
Reception: Felix the robot came to visit
Reception this week to start off our new
topic Toy Story.
Thank you to all our parents who supported up

Parking on Walton Road and Price Road.
We have some issues at school with parents parking in front of emergency access,
across dropped kerbs, over junctions and zigzags outside our school. Some of these
areas have yellow lines—please adhere to parking restrictions as inconsiderate parking
can cause inconvenience to neighbours and other road users.
The existing school entrance markings on Walton Road are ‘No Stopping Monday to Friday 8am
– 4pm’.
Due to inconsiderate parking across a junction a child was nearly knocked over. To ensure the
safety of our children we have spoken with West Midlands Police. The outcome of this is that
around the hours of 8.30am - 8.50am, 11.30am and 3.25pm vehicular activity will be monitored.
In December parents/staff/neighbours/members of the public will be asked to take photographic
evidence of any vehicle that is causing an obstruction or parked in a dangerous manner. Any
vehicle registration number (VRM) we receive will be recorded, published in the school
Newsletter and passed on to West Midlands Police where a Fixed Penalty Notice will be issued.
The photographic evidence must show where and how the car was parked and show the vehicle
registration.
These actions are legal.
For your Information
Year 4—Birmingham Hippodrome
We are working alongside the
Birmingham Hippodrome -
introducing the world of drama to
our children.
The children had a fantastic day working with
Mr Hallsworth on Tuesday. All the children
took part in the drama activities which was
linked to their new theme 'Blue Abyss'. He
will be back working with year 4 next week
and then after that, he will be working with
another year group. We are all looking
forward to that!
Year 6 - Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolour Dream Coat
We are excited to tell you this year, Year 6,
will be performing ‘Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolour Dream Coat’ as an end of year
production.
This a great opportunity for our children to
work alongside Birmingham
Hippodrome. This will be replacing
the end of year Prom for this year,
and in the future.
Peter Pan - Birmingham Hippodrome
Children visited Birmingham
Hippodrome to see
‘Peter Pan - the
high-flying pantomime
adventure’ with their moms and
dads. A fantastic time was had by
all….oh yes they did!!
Declan and Ruby were invited
up on stage with ‘Mr Smee’
‘...I loved going on stage with
Mr Smee…’. Declan
Spoiler Alert: ‘…My favourite part was when the
crocodile stuck his head through the crack and
ate Captain Hook - I loved that part…’ Ruby
Thank you to our parents, Miss McDonald,
Birmingham Hippodrome and Shireland CAT for
making this possible.

your child must give your chosen password to
the member of staff releasing your child.

There have been cases of head lice in school.
Please check your child for these. Information
on how to deal with head lice can be found on
our website. (overleaf)
Nut Allergy
A child in Reception has a severe
nut allergy. Could we please ask
that you are more vigilant with the
products that you put in lunch
boxes and check they do not contain nuts.
Wearing earrings during P.E.
If your child wears earrings, as school policy states, you must send in plasters as we are not able to apply these. If you do not send in plasters to cover earrings, or remove earrings on P.E. day, your child will not be able to participate in P.E.
Violin lessons
If your child plays the violin you will be aware
that there have been no lessons over the past
few weeks. We have now been informed that
lessons will resume on:

their violins in to school.
