Principal’s Report
Fete Extravaganza!
What an amazingly successful Fete our school community staged last Sunday.
In hosting thousands of visitors to our wonderful school, we certainly put our
best foot forward and we should all be very proud of our collective efforts!
In true Willy North spirit, a huge contingent of parents came together to forge a
truly professional, well-coordinated and highly entertaining community event.
Whilst there were many weary parents at the end of the day, there was also an
enormous sense of pride and efficacy that came from everyone working so
seamlessly together in further support of our great school.
The success of the Fete can be measured on so many levels, however as a
fundraiser it is well on track to generate significant additional funds for the
school. We hope to have a very close figure by the end of the term once all of

the costs have been accounted for and tallied. We will certainly be excited to share this news with everyone.
The proceeds of this year’s Fete will be used to refurbish almost twenty classrooms with new carpet and we
hope to be able to also install a large interactive screen in the gymnasium. How fortunate we are as a school to
be able to provide such well-maintained facilities as a result of the hard work of our school community.
Whilst the Fete was a superb collective effort from our school community last Sunday, a very dedicated
committee has been meeting for over the last twelve months to coordinate all of the planning elements. I would
like to recognise the efforts of our Fete Coordinator, Stacy Szalay, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes
for months to ensure such a successful event. This being even more impressive, considering it was Stacy’s first
time in the role of Coordinator!
We would also like to recognise the following committee members and parents, who contributed countless
hours to the Fete:
Dee McNamara - Sponsorship Mandi Bevan – Social Media
Felicity Hanrahan – Entertainment Tim Steere – Logistics
Zoran – Fete Central Mel Fisher – Finance

Departing committee members – Sadly some of our key team members will have no primary school children

is today:

National Young Leader’s Conference
Last Monday I had the privilege of attending the National Young Leader’s Conference with our 8 School
Captains at the Melbourne Convention Centre. It was certainly an inspiring event as we listened to a number of
speakers who have worked incredibly hard to follow their goals and forge successful journeys in life.
I thought I would share some of the powerful reflections of our School Leaders in this week’s newsletter:
‘The National Young Leaders Day on the 18th of March was amazing. The four awesome speakers talked
about how to be a good leader and we weren't just sitting around. It was fun, we got to interact with other
schools. They've really got me motivated and I hope you'll see big things from us in the future.’ Jonah M
‘It was a fantastic learning experience and I left feeling very inspired, all the speakers were amazing and told
great stories that I loved listening to. I loved the things that the speakers said and I will try to apply the quotes
into my life.’ Chloe W.
‘The most inspiring things I heard at NYLD were Liesel Jones’ steps to success;
1 Set crazy goals and break them down
2 It takes a long time to achieve goals
3 To succeed at something you just have to take the first step.’ Millie M.
"I learnt today at the National Young Leaders Day that when
setting goals you should make them as big as you can, break
them down and get started right away." David P.
‘On Monday 18th March, I attended the Halogen Leadership
Conference as part of my School Captaincy role. We learned that it’s alright to make mistakes, to just keep trying and listen to others and always strive to be your best. Liesel Jones was one of the guest speakers and she talked about taking small steps to achieve big goals. It was a fabulous day and I enjoyed every minute.’ William Y.
Enjoy the rest of the week

Student Safety
Please take the time to regularly remind your child/ren about safety, especially when going to and from school. Here are the important points to mention:
Do not to talk to strangers and never accept a ride from a stranger, or accept lollies or gifts from a stranger.
Immediately report any issue or problem you may have when going to or from school, to your mum and dad, or to your teacher, the Principal, Assistant Principal or office staff.
Always get permission from mum or dad before going to play with a friend after school and always let mum and dad know where you will be and what time you will be home.
We advise that, wherever possible, children should travel to or from school with an adult or with their friends, rather than travel alone.
Early Release
All children collected from school before 3.30pm must be signed out at the Office. With an ‘Early Release Pass’ to hand to the supervising teacher. If a child is signed out at Recess or Lunch time, your child will be called to the Office and the Early Release Pass will be given to the supervising teacher.
Bikes & Scooters Many children ride bikes and scooters to school each day. All bikes and scooters must be locked up in either the Bike or Scooter Enclosure to prevent theft. Please ensure your child has a chain and a lock.
All children who ride a bike or scooter must wear a helmet which is a requirement by the Government. The school regularly reminds all children about wearing helmets for their safety.
All bikes, scooters, skateboards, ribstic and helmets must be labelled, with your child’s name and class. Children are reminded they must walk their bike, scooter, skateboard or ribstic to and from the school gates. No bikes are to be brought through the school buildings and we request, where possible, that scooters are also not walked through the building.
Working With Children Cards Cardholders who are required to renew their WWCC will no longer need to go to Australia Post to lodge a paper form and present their current card. Cardholders will go to the WWCC website to complete their renewal application online and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the fee using a credit card when using the online renewal process, cardholders will be notified by SMS, letter or email 28 days before their WWCC is due to expire. It is important for cardholders to keep their contact details up to date so that they receive this important reminder.
After receiving a notification, individuals continuing to do child-related work should go to MyCheck on the WWCC website and apply to renew their check. Cardholders will be asked to register with MyCheck if they have not already done so. Once logged in to MyCheck, cardholders will be prompted to confirm or update their personal contact and work details, complete the online form and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the non-refundable fee. More information: an FAQ guide to online renewals will be
available in 'Publications' under 'Resources' on the WWC website,
or contact the Customer Support Line on 1300 652 879 8.30am –
