40 President’s Report August has come and gone and it seems it was a quiet month for the Branch. Dominion Convention was held in Winnipeg from the 24th to the 28th. Our Branch was well represented, sending seven delegates and one observer. I can’t speak for the rest of my comrades but I learned a lot from the experience. We will have a report at the general meeting this month. Unfortunately, we lost a veteran, Don Cummings, our Legion Color Party and an Honor guard were present for the funeral service on August 29th. Job well done. September is shaping up to be huge month with a fish fry, volunteer party, Legion week, (16th –22nd), and fall supper. Get your tickets early. Take care, Comrades, and hope to see you around the Branch. Respectfully submitted

The Color Party has had a busy summer. Two members of the Hong Kong Color Party “Marched on the Colors “ with Cde. Neil Zebinski, and Dexter Harvey. Cde. Maureen Johnson played music for the Last Post On July 8/18, members of the Color Party participated in Commemoration Ceremony honoring members who participates in the Battle of Hong Kong, Dec 1941 at the Branch. On Sunday July 22/18, We, Cde Neil Zebinski, Dexter Harvey, and myself marched in the Parade representing Br 42. On Friday July 27/18, the Color Party participated in the funeral of Cde. Stan Schactay at Glen Eden Funeral Home. I have been busy with the Legion Dominion Convention as the Color Sargent for the Dominion Color Party Team. We lead the Parade on Sun Aug 26/18 followed by a Memorial Service on Memorial Blvd in Wpg. I was also a Br Delegate to the 47th Dominion Convention at the RBC Centre in Wpg and part of LAC Committee for this Convention.

Bingo Report
Bingo appears to be going well. On Monday, August 27th there was a record number of people downstairs (62). There was an incident with one of the bingo players last month. Upon going home, this individual was mugged; her purse was stolen, and she was pushed down. It is not known whether this was a targeted attack knowing this individual was playing bingo or if it was random. All bingo players: PLEASE BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDING LEAVING BINGO. Casual cashier are still needed, if interested of know of someone who may be, please, get in touch with me. Respectively submitted

Ladies Auxiliary It seems summer is coming to an end. This means the Ladies Auxiliary will be gearing up for a busy fall. A reminder to the ladies who are attending the floor curling in Lac du Bonnet on September 8, ladies should meet at the branch for 11:45 if anyone needs a ride. We are entering two teams but spectators are welcome. We will be looking for helpers for the Veterans and Spouses dinner on September 21. Prepping and setup will be at 10:00, serving and cleanup will be at 5:30. On September 23 the Branch will be having a fall supper. Auxiliary members will be in charge of cleanup between sittings, and need to be at the Branch by 3:00. We will be having a Mug, Spud and steak fundraiser on Oct 20. Tickets are $20.00 and available from Auxiliary members and from the bar. Our annual craft sale will be November 4. If anyone would like to rent a table please call Sandy Chiborak. Our next meeting will be September 26. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Respectfully submitted

Over 60 Club This year the Over 60 Club games day was very successful. Uncertain weather and smoke in the air led to decision to move the outdoor game indoors. Not only did we see an increase in the number of games participants, we had a high level of interaction among players and spectators. The indoor games enabled people with physical challenges to participate. The games day activities provided a focal center of pleasure, enjoyment, goodwill and fellowship among club members. I want to thank the members who participated in the games and those who helped in the planning and organization of the games. Thank you to Reverend Sharman for your historic military event and grace.

Over 60 Entertainment Games Day turned out to be FUN, FUN, & FUN. All reports indicated everyone had a great time and enjoyed playing inside. It was suggested we always keep the games inside in the future. The few people who did not play thought the juke box was a good idea and enjoyed the tunes. A couple of others said they had a great fun just watching the players. Each team was composed of five players who participated in three different games. The winning team was: Twyla Vandriel Adrian Vandriel Claude Jones Cookie McAuley Lynne Kowal 2nd place followed close behind, Dexter Harvey Jeanne Harvey Glenna Wentworth Randy Adair Grace Hordyski We also had a cribbage tournament in the Games Room. The winning twosome was: Bob Leah & Bob Mundt. 2nd place, only a few points behind was: Helen Starodub & Bev Bruce. Congratulations to all the winners. A BIG THANK YOU to all the workers who helped in keeping the games running smoothly. A special thanks to Jack, Carl, Alice & Lynne for the organizing.

Next month, September 20th, we will be back to our regular entertainment. Luciane of Destiny will be on stage. September also holds Legion Week. Our club has planned a pot luck luncheon for Tuesday, September 18th at 1:00 pm; cheese, crackers, sandwiches, etc. Everyone is welcome; members and non-members, just bring a little plate of something to share and enjoy an afternoon of visiting with your friends. This should be a good afternoon. Again, I would like to thank all my volunteers. We could not do anything without you. Respectfully submitted
