Colin Bohler became in-volved with Bull Terriers in 1976 and is the owner of Kingstonia Bull Terriers. The kennel has bred, owned and been involved with 33 cham-pions, eight Ormandy Vase winners, four Ormandy Jug winners, eight Stud Dogs of the Year and three Brood Bitch winners — all this de-spite breeding only 27 litters over a period of 38 years. Ch Bonaparte of the French Border of Kingsto-nia is the SA record holder with 19 champion
descendants, and Sandawana’s Tommy Hotspur of Kingstonia produced 16 champions.
Colin is also well-known for a successful programme of im-porting frozen semen for artifi-cial insemination. He imported top bloodlines from Europe that dramatically improved the breed in South Africa.
Colin is one of the founders of the Bull Terrier Care Associa-tion (Welfare) and has served
as chairman or as member for many of years.

Heila Brits is new President of the SABTCHeila Brits of Brilows is the new President of the South African Bull Terrier Club and the first woman ever to occupy a position such as these. She takes the place of her husband, Louw Brits, who passed away on 19 June last year.
Heila is no newcomer to the Bull Terrier world. She has been actively and passionately involved with Bull Terriers since 1969 when Louw started his Brilows kennel. No fewer than 13 cham-pions came through her hands and she helped at the births of a large number of puppies. Through the years she has also been committed in Bull Terrier administration by help setting up clubs such as the Newcastle Bull Terrier Club, the Northern Transvaal Bull Terrier Club, and the Limpopo Bull Terrier Club, as well as resuscitating the Highveld Ridge Bull Terrier Club. She is also one of our very experienced ROM judges.
Heila says she still wants to live out her passion for Bull Ter-riers as she has been doing for the past 46 years.

During his tenure some 500 dogs were rehomed. He also served on the committee of the Eastern Transvaal Bull Terrier Club and was Chairman of the SABTC Annual Committee for eight years. Colin is the author of Bull Ter-riers of South Africa 1860 –1999.
His first appointment as judge was in 1989 and since
then he has judged 66 times in various overseas countries as well as in Zimbabwe and South Africa. He has judged four times in Australia and his most recent overseas as-signment was judging a class at the Major Trophy Show in the UK — the first South African ever to be invited to do so. Colin is considered one of the best Bull Terrier and Terrier judges, exhibitors and breeders.
André strydom started with Bull Terriers in 1972 and with his wife, Doulina, produced 43 champions in 14 years (from 1976 to 1989) plus a further three during his first few years of retirement — a total of 46 champions. Amongst them were Southern Africa’s first three Supreme Bull Terriers.
Their kennel, Sunduza, produced eight Dogs and Bitches of the Year and five Stud Dogs of the Year over the 14 years, plus seven Brood Bitches of the Year in one 10-year period.
Many Supreme Bull Terriers, Dogs and Bitches of the Year and Southern African and foreign champions are de-scended from Sunduza dogs. This includes two Regent Trophy winners (the top uK award) and a North American Stud Dog of the Year title holder. in 30 years of SABTC
Major Trophy Shows, Sunduza dogs or their descendants won major trophies in 24 of them.
André is regarded as one of the most in-fluential personalities in Southern African Bull Terrierdom — as leader, breeder, judge, stu-dent of our breed and writer.
As the longest serving former chairman of the South African Bull Terrier Club, André is regarded as the father of the modern South-ern African Major Trophy Show, which was established in its present format under his
chairmanship in 1982.He is also highly regarded as a judge. in 2012 he
judged the SABTC Major Trophy Show for a fifth time. He has also judged championship shows in a number of over-seas countries.

Boys and their BulliesPirate (right) and Babe (left) were spotted taking Jacques and Benru to the OutdoorX expo that took place near Vereeniging. Babe was quite a reserved lady, but Pirate definitely thought he should be friends with everyone. His enthusiasm and charm show once again that Bull Terriers are not the vicious breed that the media portrays them to be. A boy could have no better companion.

Some new Champions on the Bully scene
ABOVE: Dewanze Marseille became a champ at Pretoria KC Championship Show on 18 May 2014 under ROM judge Georgia Schiller. The owner and the breeder is Dewald Janse van Vuuren. Congratulations and well done!
RIGHT: Kunjuri Kasmira of Jimnah, handled by Bennie van Niekerk at the Eastern Transvaal Bull Terrier Club Championship Show under ROM judge David Harrison, has gained her final points towards
becoming a Champion. A two point CC, as well as Best Mover in Show.
Congratulations to Richard and Heleen Dannhauser, the proud owners and the breeder, Rory
Meaker, on this lovely girl.
RIGHT: Wynand Lourens and Best in Show winner Ch (USA) Moonflower
Scofield of Carradice (Imp Hun)“Scofie”, a previous MTS winner, became
a South African Champ under Judge Dave Harrison (ROM) on the night of 9 May 2014 at the Eastern Transvaal
Championship Show.Congratulations “Scofie”. USA and SA
Champ. What a wonderful achievement!
ABOVE: Highlawn St Peter became champion on 21 April 2014. Sire: US Ch Moonflower Scofield of Carradice; Dam: Ch Ludere Phoebe of Highlawn. He became the first champion from this mating.
Fare-thee-well our Bully friendsThe past few months have seen the sad loss of several Bull Terriers who have been great characters in our community.
Ch lubjan Monchou of Rhizen ROM, affectionately known as “Tank”, tragically passed away at the end of June. The demise of this great champion came as a shock to his owners who had had him Dop-pler tested 18 months before with-out any abnormalities being evident.
Tank was the Supreme Bull Ter-
rier of Southern Africa in 2010 and Dog of the Year three times in suc-cession — a South African record equalling feat.
He is one of only seven Champi-ons awarded ROM status in South Africa and has sired five champions. His unfortunate death is a notable loss to the breed. Tank, Jannie Lubbe and his wife (above).
Highlawn leah, bred and owned by John Herbst, got 5 CC points in her
first year. Sadly she died of Spirocerca Lupi, a lethal parasitic worm, at the age of two. Dogs contract the infestation when they eat infected dung beetles.
Ch Bukavi Diesel n Dust of Wilbod passed away on 11 May. “I had to take the most difficult decision today,” says Jaco de Bod. “He was not just a show dog. He was part of the De Bod family. We are going to miss you, Diesel.” In
the years since his birth on 6 October 2005 Diesel achieved many Best of Breed and CC awards.
silonque johnybonesjones, known as Austin, died of septicaemia just two weeks after winning Best Puppy and RCC at the SABTC Championship Show.

Prospectus: The Southern Africa Bull Terrier Yearbook 2014IntroductionThe Southern African Bull Terrier Yearbook is among very few publication of its kind in the world — a document of record that will be an authoritative source on this history of the Bull Terrier breed for future generations. The 2014 edition will, like its predecessors, be both a handy reference for owners, breeders and those interested in Bull Terriers, as well as an attractive and informative coffee table publication.
The SABT Yearbook was published for the first time in 1984 and since then this prestigious publication has gone from strength to strength. Last year’s edition, described by many Bull Terrier lovers, owners and breeders, as the best ever, comprised more than 235 pages with eight articles dealing with issues of real significance to the Bull Terrier community.
The Editorial Committee is aware that it is not the number of pages that is key to a publication’s value, but its quality, the relevance of its content, and its circulation. importantly, of course, it must be economically sound and viable — not only for the advertisers but for the South African Bull Terrier Club too. The 2014 edition is planned with this in mind and the editorial content will again be topical and relevant.
Editorial Reasoning1. The rivalry between electronic media and the traditional printed media has only grown in the past year as more
and more websites are launched, and an increasing number of people go to the internet for their information. Most international newspaper groups no longer boast about their printed figures. Electronic circulation is becoming more important and dominant — hence the regular communication via the Bullytin — but the Editorial Committee of the South African Bull Terrier Club believes the Yearbook has a very important role in Bull Terrier circles as a publication of record and long-term authority.
2. Once again a key focus will be the results of our prestige and glamorous National Major Trophy Show — the MTS — without doubt one of the top shows in the world. Prominent coverage will, as always, also be given to the results of all Bull Terrier Championship Shows in South Africa, and the judges’ reports thereof. Our Bullies’ performances at All Breed shows as well as the Major Trophy Show Qualifiers and ROM Champions with be recorded for posterity. The outcome of international shows and articles on the main Bull Terrier topics of the day will have their usual prominence.
3. The Editorial Committee, designated by the South Africa Bull Terrier Club to give shape to the 2014 Yearbook against the background of the above reasoning, comprises:
Convenor and Editor: Pieter Wilken graphic Designer & Layout Artist: Heath White Advertising Manager: Carien Warffemius, and Ex Officio Member: Johan Warffemius (SABTC Chairperson)
As is always the case, the Committee will call on various co-workers to
assist with the compilation of the Yearbook. The Committee also relies on the judges, and a special request is made to them to send their reports, with photos, to the editor within three weeks of completion of the show they have adjudicated.
Bullytin — 2014/02 — july/August 10
Advertisements1. As with any publication, advertising constitutes an important part of the Yearbook. it is a handy instrument for any
breeder and/or owner to build his/her kennel’s image and is a useful, portable reference for readers.
2. Lovers of the breed from overseas have made use of the Kennel Pages in previous editions to promote their ken-nels. We are always grateful to our friends from abroad who support our Yearbook with advertising, and who actively contribute international news to the editorial pages.
3. The advertising pages will consist of four sections. The first section is for breeders and owners and is known as the KEnnEl PAgEs; The second section is the BusinEss PAgEs; The third section is set aside for our sPECiAlist Bull tERRiER CluBs; and. in addition to these sections we are offering six PREstigE PAgEs in special posi-
tions in other parts of the publication that can be purchased for a premium. There are no commercial restrictions on these pages. They are:i. Facing the Contents page;ii. At the beginning of the MTS section, facing the list of winners;iii. At the beginning of the MTS judges’ reports, facing the first page of the first report;iv. At the beginning of the Champion Dogs section, facing the list of dogs;v. At the beginning of the Champion Bitches section, facing the list of bitches;vi. At the beginning of the Overseas reports, opposite the first page of the first report.

Time Frames1. As in the past, we plan to release the Yearbook at the Major Trophy Show during the first week of February. In order
to achieve this, all editorial and advertising contributions must be received by the Editorial Committee no later than 31 October 2014. It is imperative that this schedule is adhered to as most printers close during the first week of De-cember and open again only in the middle of January. We have less than four weeks in November to design, compile and check the Yearbook for accuracy before it has to go to print.

Please confirm rates with her.
She should be sent the text and images for your page/s as soon as possible (and definitely not later than 31 October), along with a brief indication of what you want your advertisement to communicate (e.g. modernity, a solid history, a wild African feel etc.). Heath can be contacted on 082-457-1528 or at [email protected]
We would like the Yearbook become the “PROPERTY” of every lover of the Breed, and would like to see advertisements and articles from every part of Southern Africa and abroad; from the well-known, as well as smaller or first-time breeders. if you feel your kennel has something important to contribute, tell us about it.
ClosingShould you need more information or assistance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Editor, Pieter Wilken. His contact details are alongside.
