CHALCOT WEEKLY
Growing a Supportive Community of Active Learners
Chalcot Lodge Commitment to Child Safety
Chalcot Lodge Primary School is committed to safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This will be the
primary focus of our care and decision-making. Chalcot Lodge Primary School has zero tolerance for child abuse.
Chalcot Lodge Primary School is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are
safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention will be paid to the
cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as
the safety of children with a disability.
Every person involved at Chalcot Lodge Primary School has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role
he/she plays individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at
the forefront of all they do and every decision they make.
Father’s Day – Sunday 1st September
Father’s Day is soon approaching!! Parent Club are busily organising a Father’s Day stall
which will be held on Thursday 29th August. Children will have the opportunity to buy their
dad something special for Father’s Day.
On Friday 30th August, we will also be celebrating Father’s Day with a special breakfast and
early morning activities just for dads (or significant male) and their children. All families
have received their special invitation via COMPASS for dads (or significant male) to come along and
participate in this special celebration. To help us with catering please ensure that you complete the form
via COMPASS by the due date. We certainly don’t want dad’s to miss out!!
Student Led Conference – Thursday 19th September
Student Led Conferences will be held later this term on Thursday, 19th September. The Student Led
Conference is a very important way for your child to discuss their learning, showcase their work and an
opportunity to celebrate their achievements with their parents. Student Led conferences will run for
approximately 15 minutes and both parents and students will be given written prompts to help with the
discussions.
It is important to remember that Student Led conferences are between the individual child and their
parents. Therefore, other siblings are not permitted to attend the designated session time. To assist families,
specialist teachers will be available to supervise siblings in the hall from 4.00pm to 7.00pm while you
attend your individual child’s conference. Please put this important evening in your family diary dates.
A notice with information and time allocations will be distributed to families in the next couple of weeks.
Asthma
The Department of Education requires that we have full written details of a student’s condition and to have
spare medication kept with the child at school. The medication needs to be labelled with your child's
name, the name of the medication and instructions for administration of the medication. If your child has
asthma, even if your child has not recently had an episode of asthma, the school requires an individual
student asthma action plan. If you have not recently filled in or updated an asthma action plan could you
please contact the office for a form to be sent home with your child.
If students do suffer an attack of Asthma at school the following procedure is adhered to:
medication (Ventolin) administered;
supervision maintained;
if there is no improvement after 10 minutes, we seek medical advice and if possible, parents/guardians
are contacted immediately or otherwise advised by note.
Is it asthma?
Does your child have a wheeze, shortness of breath, cough or a tight chest:
With a cold or chest infection?
Early in the morning or late at night?
During or after exercise?
During the winter season when it is cold?
If the temperature suddenly changes?
Near cats or other animals?
Around cigarette smoke?
Around pollens or moulds?
During the burn-off season?
If your answer is “yes” to any one of these questions it could be a sign that your child may have asthma.
For more information please contact The Asthma Foundation of Victoria on 1800 645 130 or visit your
GP.
On the window sill I see a
daffodil,
Tall fluttering, following the sun.
It looks like an orange and yellow
daffodil,
Before me and my mum went to
pay the bill.

Lost Property
We have a large amount of unclaimed items of clothing in lost property. Lost property is stored in 2 large
containers in the hall. If your child is missing any items of clothing please come and have a look!!!! Most
of the items are not named and are in good condition.
Any unnamed and unclaimed items will be washed and used as preloved items or disposed of.
Toys at School
Children love their toys and these are often quite expensive. Whilst students enjoy bringing toys and
games to school, I need to remind parents and students that toys are brought to school at the owner’s risk.
Unfortunately, belongings can be lost, damaged etc. . . . Students are not to bring electronic hand held
games or any expensive toys or games.

On the hill sits ten thousand
daffodils
Dancing so gracefully in the
wind.
They stand tall and slender
in the sun
Orange, yellow, pink and
white are the
Colours the daffodils shine.
By Anaka
I saw a daffodil it was gold and green,
It was beautiful and lean.
And then I saw it look at me,
The daffodil danced with glee.
The daffodil showed me some other
daffodils
There were millions of daffodils next
to the B.B.C drills.
Daffodils make me smile!!!

Daffodils, daffodils,
so lovely, delicate and fun.
With a wondrous, dreamy

Bathing in the golden sun.

for 2019. If there are any parents who are interested
in volunteering their time to process School
Banking, please come and join us on a Thursday
morning from 9 a.m. It usually takes around 1½
hours. Please ask at the school office for directions
to our work room. PLEASE THINK ABOUT
WHETHER YOU COULD HELP, TO ENSURE
THAT SCHOOL BANKING PROGRAM WILL
STILL BE ABLE TO RUN IN 2020. Don’t put it
off – the longer you have to learn the ropes, the
better! If there are enough helpers, you could take
turns.
