SCHOOL PLANNING Last week Executive staff continued to compile and evaluate staff, parent and student surveys to
allow the development of the school plan. The three strategic directions that have been decided on
are student engagement and learning through quality teaching, building capacity – within staff and
students and working with the wider community to enhance educational outcomes. As a newly
appointed Principal this is an exciting opportunity as it allows me to work with all facets of the
educational community to increase the outcomes for the students of Molong Central School. I am
looking forward to Term 2 Staff Development Day on the 20th of April to set targets and goals for the
next three years.
WESTERN REGION REPRESENTATIVES This week three students Aaliyah Wright, Sarah Valantine and Ben Kirk will be representing
Western Region at the upcoming CHS Swimming Championships held at Homebush. I wish the
competitors well and hope they enjoy competing against the State’s best at Sydney Olympic Park.
We look forward to hearing of your results on your return.
Mrs Michelle Barrett Principal
ROTARY OPPORTUNITIES I was invited to attend the Rotary meeting last week as Lachlan Campbell presented a report on his
participation in the 2015 National Youth Science Forum. Lachlan’s presentation provided me with an
insight into the opportunities that the Molong Rotary Club have provided for many students in the
Molong district. Applications for the 2016 National Youth Science Forum are currently open until the
31st of May and interested science students are encouraged to apply. More information will be
distributed to interested Year 11 students before the end of the term. If you would like additional
information about this unique opportunity please contact myself for an information flyer.
HEATERS I have been in discussions with Andrew Gee and the Orange Schools Director, Maree Angus, to
secure the replacement of identified unflued heaters prior to the start of winter. I am aware of the
situation that occurred in 2014 and look forward to bringing the issue to a close. It is important that
students have a comfortable and safe learning environment and I would like to thank the P&C for
their continued lobbying in support of replacing the heaters.
WORK EXPERIENCE Year 10 have Work Experience this week and for many students this will be their first opportunity to
sample working life in a chosen field. This can be a crossroad for many students as some will
gravitate towards an apprenticeship or traineeship whilst others will realise that what they first
thought was a viable career option becomes something that they no longer want to pursue. I look
forward to hearing about the experiences that Year 10 are about to embark on and am sure that they
will represent Molong Central School with pride in the local and surrounding community.
L-R: Aaliyah Wright, Ben Kirk &
Sarah Valantine.

WESTERN RUGBY TRIALS SUCCESS!
Five somewhat nervous M.C.S. students (Harry Gersbach, Kade Barrow, Josh Amberge, Tyler Ginn and Jye Barrow) travelled to Endeavour Oval in Orange for the Western Rugby trials last Wednesday, 18th March. All of our boys come from League backgrounds and as many of the skills required in Rugby differ significantly; a quick ‘rundown’ was required in order for our students to compete with experienced Rugby players from other schools in the Western Area. The day consisted of three short trial matches, (in which all of our boys played very well), before the Possibles and Probables teams were selected. Harry Gersbach, Jye Barrow and Tyler Ginn were all selected for the final trial match of the day, from which the Western side was to be decided. All three boys played particularly well during this game, with Harry and Jye both being selected in the 1st 15 for the Western side. This is an outstanding achievement as there were over 50 players vying for positions in this highly competitive trial. Congratulations to all five of our students on an outstanding effort. We wish both Harry and Jye all the very best for the State tournament which will be held in Wagga later this year. Mr M. Paterson, Sport Coordinator
General Induction Training Program (aka White Card) On Monday March 2, after attending a one-day training course, nine Year 10 Molong Central School students obtained their white card qualification with flying colours. The Occupational Health and Safety Course was delivered by Mr Bob Hughes, an accredited trainer. The course involved lectures on site safety, how to keep the work environment safe and what to do in case you have an accident. The day was spent studying, with talks from the trainer, followed by a short assessment. The training enables the students to not only understand the importance of work, health and safety in the workplace. It also allows them to access construction sites in order for them to participate in work placement (this is a legal requirement). A temporary certificate was issued at the end of the day and they will receive the official plastic card in the post. Congratulations to the following students for not only obtaining their qualification but also for their behaviour and attitude throughout the day: Lachlan Backhouse, Tristan Douglas, Lauren Fessey, Sarah Fessey, Shannon Menzies, Luke Miller, Reece Pittis, Luke Schmich and Jackson Whiley.

3D PRINTING IN YR 7 TECHNOLOGY (MANDATORY)
Students in Year 7 Technology (Mandatory) classes at Molong Central School are using newfangled equipment as found in Industry. They design and make personalised key or pet tags using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, then print the finished product in tough multi-coloured ABS plastic. This is a multi-step process that requires students to draw their designs to exact dimension and export the files to another program for orientation and positioning ready for printing. Students learn many valuable skills along the way and are mesmerised by the 3D printer as designs materialise before their eyes. The 3D printer works by extruding tiny blobs of molten plastic that cool and fuse together. Objects are built up a layer at a time in up to two colours. Glow in the dark plastic gives some objects extra functionality and appeal. The Industrial Arts Faculty is also working towards the purchase of a laser cutter that would enable students to cut and engrave a wide range of materials to precise sizes by using a computer controlled laser. CAD skills would once again be an essential part of this process and could lead to many exciting and lucrative careers such as engineering, architecture, product design or building and construction where producing and reading plans are a fundamental part of the job. Crazy Hair Day On Friday 13th March, students went a little
crazy arriving at school with some very crazy
hair. Even the teachers got in on the act! Over

Cancer Council. Some students also attended the
Worlds Greatest Shave in the hall at lunchtime
where Sharna Campbell and Mercades Oste
donated their hair to a wonderful cause.
