PRIZEGIVING, PARENTS = PRIDE Yesterday Payton and Callaway discovered a “kit” (baby rabbit) outside the Kowhai classroom. They immediately went into animal rescue mode and began finding ways to nurture the animal as best they could given the rather cold snap in the weather.

The encounter the students had with the animal made me think about how we (and by we, I mean parents and teachers), nurture the development of our children. We want them to be safe, secure, and happy. Educational nurturing fosters for example - resilience and perseverance; motivation; independence; a “can do” attitude; thinking; creativity and imagination; innovation; communicating with clarity and precision; and personal responsibility. Last night I attended the Katikati College prizegiving at which a number of ex- Matahui students were awarded prizes that covered an array of curriculum areas. The sense of pride expressed by all the students themselves, their parents the wider whanau and me, was palpable. We applauded their accomplishments as they were given public recognition for the high levels they had reached through personal endeavour. We were all immensely proud of their achievements. As I wandered back to my car after the ceremony (which lasted 3+ hours) it wasn’t my numb rump that I thought about. It was the impact Matahui School had on its students. The way this school nurtures the people who matter most in our daily lives – the students. The Year 13 students from Matahui School who graduated last night were in Year 8 when I first arrived. Seeing them now as young adults, so confident, capable and ready to shake up the world was a delight but more significantly a privilege, knowing that this school had a key role to play in nurturing and forming their character. I will in due course provide you with the details of the Matahui students who were recipients of awards at Katikati College and hope to include other accolades from our alumni who attend other schools in the region. Watch this space! Ka kite Max

"THE POINT" SCHOOL PRODUCTION VIDEO The video for the school production is now complete and ready for delivery. The video was filmed in 4K resolution allowing me to zoom in during editing so you can see the speakers clearly. It is available in full HD (1080p) in the following ways:

• Blu Ray (BD-R) $20 (please confirm your Blu Ray player can play BD-R) • USB stick $20 (ready to play on most new TVs or on iPads, etc) • Video file $10 (as above but you provide your own USB stick) • DVD $15 (video file ready to be watched on computer, NOT on a DVD player)

Please order these by emailing Philip directly at: [email protected] (please note the double "o") If anyone really wants a DVD watchable on a DVD player please contact me as DVD video is only 1/4 of the resolution of the above versions. These files are not copy protected and you are free to distribute them within your family, all that I ask is that each family pay for one copy as I am trying to keep the costs down and a lot of effort went into editing this for you. Special Editions: The existing version follows the action and speakers as play progresses, so your child may not be in frame at all times. I can take on any special commissions to make a

version solely focusing on your child if you wish.

HEALTH AND SAFETY SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH

DUST ON MY SADDLE….. and over the school Please adhere to the 15km limit when coming to and from school on the school driveway to help reduce the effect and impact of the dust. Whilst we know that there will still be dust, keeping your speed to the limit will make a difference. Thank you for your understanding and support.
